| i have a car length and my buddy just bought a mid length. i looked around online and i wasnt too fond of the middy so i went with the car. then i saw his in person, and now i want one. how much of a pain is it to change it over from car to mid? also, any suggestions on what parts i should go with? |
+1 I don't think it would be very cost effective to convert your upper into a middy. I also highly recommend a middy upper from CMMG. I have a CMMG govt. profile middy that sits on a Bushmaster lower. It is my favorite rifle. Either sell the carbine upper or let it sit for now. The worst thing that happens is it grows it's own lower and becomes a whole rifle again. Hey, I have seen it happen. |
If you think that you could do a barrel swap and have or are willing to get the proper tools like, barrel wrench, upper action block and medium to large table vise, it's not that hard, I did it myself on my mid length build project. Take a look here for instructions in mounting a barrel. Assemble Your Own LOWER, UPPER, FREE FLOAT, TRIGGER, GAS BLOCK - Step by Step Instructions! link If you don't want to do it yourself you could get midlength upper half and sell your old upper half. There are usually three barrel contours available for the midlength barrels: government profile (light under the handguards) - Sabre Defence and CMMG medium contour - Armalite, CMMG, and Denny's Global Tactical Operator barrel heavy contour - RRA There are also stainless steel midlength barrels available. I would generally suggest the lightest weight like the government profile barrels for all-around use. |
