Okay, is this a just "use the right tool" and unscrew it, or does it hold a pin/spring or something in place? Can I replace my grip-handle without doing anything but unscrewing it and replacing it?

the grip holds your selector switch spring and dent in place.

Turn the rifle upside down and after unscrewed...remove the grip slowly, watching for the spring, and turn the rifle right side up to extract the dent if needed

Is this a no-brainer for someone who has never done it, or if I make a false move will a tiny part shoot across my room?

no brainer, hold it upside down. take your time and don't yank the grip off. look for the spring and detent. don't forget to put them back in when you reinstall the grip.

Proceed slowly, follow Waldo's directions, and all will go fine.

Cool. Any suggestions on an ambi-dextrious grip? I am not looking for a storage compartment, ect. Just the most comfy ambi-grip for a 20" rifle.

I've experimented with several grips, and for the moment have standardized all my AR's with   Magpul MIAD's. It's highly customizable: front and backstrap interchangeability, and includes various storage options - of which I find the "spare bolt/firing pin" to be quite useful.

ETA: The MIAD is a hard plastic grip, not soft.

Looking more for a soft one like the Hogue on the bushy I shoot.

Then, perhaps an ERGO would be more suitable.

I've had thwe Hogue, the soft ergo, the hard ergo, and the Miad.  The Miad is my choice. you get a good fit to yourt hand and feel no desire for softness.

when you put the grip back on you have to watch the pring to be sure it stays lined up rather then getting pinched.
