I was going to build an M4, but with the kit + lower + shipping I could just buy one.
I was thinking a Bushmaster Patrolman's carbine, given that I absolutely love my 20" A3 Bushmaster.

Then I go to thinking, DPMS is cheaper.  Being the cheap skate I am, I am looking in a DPMS M4, like the one in the link.

How does DPMS compare to Bushmaster?
Quality?
Accuracy?
Reliability?
Fit to finish?

How does Stag and Rock River Arms comapre to DPMS and Bushmaster in the same areas?

I bet this is the 1,000 thread on the subject, but input would be appreciated.

I can’t comment on complete DPMS rifles, but I like their barrels. I’ve purchased three of them to date for various rifle projects.

DPMS has raised there prices and you can get a better rifle for a little more such as LMT.

I favor DPMS. I have owned Bushy and RRA as well. The DPMS is my go to rifle.
Check these guys out they have the best prices I've found. link

Ive gotta say my DPMS is every bit as reliable/accurate as my CMMG.

Strange thing is most people love DPMS parts. DPMS complete rifles have mixed reviews.

Anyone know if the DPMS BCGs are of good quality and have properly staked keys?

I love mine, and if I was in the market for another complete rifle I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

My DPMS upper that I bought for plinkin fun has been very reliable, and have had no problems with the BCG either. LMT and Colt are still my go to weapons.

Honestly.  DPMS had some qc issues back a few years ago.  That said, for rifles of the last year or two I have heard nothing but good marks from other owners about the weapons.

Finish has been above par.  Upper and lowers have matched perfect.  Fit has been tight and stable.

I have the DPMS AP4 (same one your looking at) I bought back in 10/2006 and have NO issues whatsoever with it.  I purchased from my local dealer.  Had him call DPMS and order the rifle while I was there.  Filled out the 4473, paid him the money and in 7 days I had rifle in hand.  Even had my name on the sticker seal on the case!  Thing was built for ME! (well maybe not specifically...  But I like to think so and it is my story dammit! )

You will get the bashers along shortly but I think it is best to talk to someone with recent experience on these weapons.

I say buy with confidence!  Make sure you do get the Chrome Lined barrel.  It is a worthy option.

I have a DPMS and have never had any problem, so far it seems to be a very good rifle, have never had had any type of malfunction, runs great with just about any manufactures ammo including wolf even though I don't shoot wolf very much, all and all its a great gun!!! Try and get one with a chrome lined barrel.

I got a DPMS not too long ago, took it out shooting yesterday, no problems whatsoever.

After three years, still rockin' and rollin'. Just recently installed a BCM FA BCG. Nothing wrong with the original. I have it as a spare now.

DPMS is fine. I really don't think FNs are much better. Never shot Bushmasters, RRAs, etc., but the only AR I like better than my DPMS at home is my Colt at work, and thats only personal preference.

I can't comment on complete rifles, but the two lowers and 4 lower parts kits work 100% for me

Had mine for almost two year's now, and no problems. Added a bcm auto bcg to it just to have an extra bcg that was mp tested. The build i'm into now has a bushmaster cromelined bbl, and dpms lower, and parts kit. I only got the bushmaster to have a different brand. My goal is to have one of each. Next is cmmg. If u research the forums u will see all the top makers are exelent. Every brand has problems once and a while that can be fixed.

Although I don't own a DPMS built rifle, I can comment on uppers, lowers and parts kits.  I actually like their finish better than the others I have handled and built.  I think they add some sort of Teflon coating over the anodized finish.  It is tough.  My Stag lower I built had a piece of anodizing chip off around the opposite trigger guard ear when I was inserting the guard pin.

My DPMS lower matches my two Bushy uppers perfect and is the same color as my stag lower too. The complete rifles are a steal even cheaper then building your own.

The fit & finish on my DPMS Panther Lite is excellent. Have owned Bushmaster, Colt, and Olympic rifles and it is the nicest of them all.

I have sold about 50 of their barrels in the past year and have yet to have a bad one. The stainless match 24" barrels average 1/2" 5 shot groups some are better. Have yet to see one that shot over an inch at 100yds. As far as reliability is concerned I have never had a problem with any of their parts. I don't do mag dumps in mine or abuse it.
I can't believe that this thread has gone on this long without the DPMS bashers coming out.
I also prefer their High rider upper receivers over standard flat top ones. The elevated optical platform is perfect for scopes with standard rings. You don't need no stink'in forward assist

just got a dpms 20'' a2 very strduy gun i like the fit/finish better then that of my freinds bushmaster m4. i cant comment on the accuracy yet, havent shot it much yet due to the weather it was raining so hard the day i took it out the target melted form being so waterlogged after 10mins i called it quits and went home.

Well, the gun store had two options.

DPMS w/o chrome lined barrel - $850
Bushmaster (in all of its awesomeness) w/ chrome lined barrel - $900

I went wiith the latter.

i can share my input on the subject!  i bought a dpms panther classic (post-ban) about
3 years ago put about 300  rounds threw it and never had a lick of trouble. the fit and
finish is awesome, the trigger is a little rough thou, took care of that with a spring kit.
it groups about 2 inches at a hundred yards. i paid 699 new with hard case.

I have a couple complete 16" HB uppers from Midway. I noticed they both have light feedramps cut into the upper, not full M4 ramps. Anyways both are better than I'd expected. I only shoot my 223 handloads so I can't coment on surplus/new 5.56 ammo. The Stainless A3 is marked 223 while the cheaper parkerized with plastic HG's is marked 5.56. accuracy is equal between the two and I've never had any problems with feeding, extraction, ejection. Can't be to bad if Cerberus bought the company, they must have seen something they liked.

I just got my first AR, a DPMS 16" M4 flattop carbine.
I got it barrel/bore chrome lined..and has iron flip up sights.
Needless to say, my cousin, who's 25 and makes a lot more money than me, was pissed as hell, when my 650(built it myself) dollar DPMS kept up with his Les Baer.
That was one of the many great moments of my life...he spent over 2K on his...me under 700$.
I love dpms....and my next rifles will definately be from them.
Some rumors you will hear is that they have shitty recievers, which is not true..they had "worse" recievers back in 2004, which they've significantly changed, and are the same as RRA, bushmaster, etc.
Good luck...hope youre not paying more than 650 for it!
