I just purchased my M4 kit from Del-Ton. I had the Firearm Dealer I had it transferred to, build it for me while I watched, as I am new to the Black Rifle. I shot 120 rounds through it this AM. What a great rifle. I have two issues I was hoping someone could help me with. Reviewing the maintenance guide for the AR, it says to break down the Bolt Carrier Assembly I need to remove the Bolt Cam Pin, and then slide out the Bolt Assembly. My Cam Pin won't come out. It spins, but it hits the black rod that is held to the assembly by two allen heads. My second issue is the adjustable butt stock. It is extremely tough to slide. I have applied some lube and cycled it quite a bit but it is very tough to change positions. The kit was a DPMS 16" M4 kit and I have no complaints with Del-Ton at all! The Firearms Dealer sent in payment information on Wed. and we received the rifle kit Friday! Great Customer Service! Any help with my two issues would be greatly appreciated.

If you didnt already you have to remove the firing fin and its retaining pin first then pull the bolt forward and it will "twist" away from the " tube" its under and will come out just clear of it. My second issue is the adjustable butt stock. It is extremely tough to slide. I have applied some lube and cycled it quite a bit but it is very tough to change positions. The stock may loosen some after use if you use it a lot but I perfer to have my stock tight (no rattle) I actualy had 2 of mine that were loose and I "dimpled" them to make them tight. The kit was a DPMS 16" M4 kit and I have no complaints with Del-Ton at all! After you've removed the cotter pin and firing pin, you rotate the cam pin 90 degrees, and it should clear the gas key (which is what you called the "black rod".) They're usually hard to get out, but there's no reason why it shouldn't come out. You might try rotating it 90 degrees the other direction.

AR Disassembly

1.  After you remove the firing pin retaining pin (the cotter pin), push the bolt in to the carrier.

2.  Turn the bolt carrier with the bolt carrier up and let the the firing pin fall free.

3.  Turn the bolt cam pin 1/4 turn and remove it.

5.  Remove the bolt.

Your stock will loosen over time.

WHY did you have a KIT (everything except the lower reciever, right) "transferred" through a dealer?

You're in Texas, right?  There is no gun registration.  Only the lower reciever is considered by law to be the firearm. You have to use an FFL to purchase the lower reciever (unless its a private, face-to-face, sale from a fellow Texan).

The kit (all the parts except the lower reciever) are just parts.  It can be mailed right to your house.  Its not a "gun" (firearm) until assembled onto a lower reciever.

You can order uppers, stocks, parts kits, etc. and have them sent right to your house.

I have turned the cam every direction I can to see if it will clear the gas key, but it will not. Very weird, as I have spent allot of time on here reading before I purchased my kit. Thanks for the repsonse though.

Actually, I'm in Georgia, and you are correct that I only needed to transfer the lower. I just purchased the kit through the FFL as well, so I didn't miss anything as this was my first one. What I need to get now is the forend rails so I can add attachments. Of course, I guess I need to find out what I can't remove my cam before I spend any extra money on accessories. Thanks for youe help.

don't do any of the maintenance you are considering until a problem arises or 5,000 rounds have been fired through.

Everyone is forgetting one important thing. AFTER you remove the firing pin PUSH the bolt back into the bolt carrier then rotate the cam pin and remove it. When the bolt is pushed back the pin rotates away from the gas key.

After removing the firing pin, I push the bolt back in, which turns the cam somewhat "down" at a 45% anlge or so. This is where i have turned the cam in every direction I can to get it to comeout. It's very close, but just hitting the gas key. Thank you for replying.

As far as the tight stock, I would spray some silicone spray on the buffer tube and work the stock back and forth.  Silicone spray works wonders on plastic.  An oil based lubricant might just gum it up more.

After you push the bolt back, you may have to pull it a hair forward to get the pin to clear.  One of my AR's is like that.  Bolt shoved all the way back,  the cam pin won't come out.  Push it a hair forward, and out it comes...

Sorry for the delay. I have been out of town between work and family holidays. I have tried several times to get this out. It won't pas the gas key, no matter what way I turn it, how far it is pushed in or out. It just won't come out.
