| I have a 6400c postban with a pinned compensator on it. I bought an A2 birdcage and noticed something after I got it home. The flutes are off center from the squared off part where it threads onto the barrel. My question is this,,Should the flutes be lined up so they symmetrical to the barrel? If they are to be that way then the flat parts of the end where it threads onto the barrel will be off center. Is this normal cause I would like the brake to be proper and not be off center. Any and all thoughts are appreciated. |

I think he is referring to the positioning of the vertical flats where the wrench would engage the comp relative to the position of the longitudinal slots in the comp. If that is the case, you don't have to worry about the position of the flats. They are just there to give you a surface to use the wrench on when installing and removing the comp. Like QUIB's post said, you need to worry about the position of the longitudinal slots. |
Not quite sure of what the OP was asking, that thought had entered my mind as I was editing the manual reference. So.......I tossed in the second pic for GP. |
| M24, that is exactly what I am referring to. Maybe I didnt do the best job of explaining it though. Just by looking at the FH, it seems the vertical flats will not be straight up and down. I do understand that the slots need to be lined up so the top slot is centerline with the centerline of the barrel. I guess am picky cause I want the vertical slots not off center when it is installed. Is it uncommon for the flats to be off center of the slots or did I buy a FH that missed inspection before it left the factory? Thanks again for everyones input. |
To be honest, I’ve never really paid attention to how or where the wrench flats are machined. As long as the slots are milled correctly and the FH times correctly, I think the wrench flats being off slightly is purely cosmetic and will in no way affect performance of the FH. |
| Well I guess I am being picky. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt really uncommon. I will put it on anyhow. Thanks. I hope it's an improvement as the pinned compensator on it now is rude, especially if you are next to me at the range. Side blast is friggin ridiculous since the slots are on the side only, kinda like shark gills. |
