does a standard bushmaster m4 have acceptable accuracy for shooting at least 1 inch groups at 200 yards, I was wondering, because I want an m4 for my first m4 and I want acceptable accuracy.

The M4 absolutely does NOT have acceptable accuracy!

It's a dirty little secret of the gun world that a ruger mini-14 has a much better accuracy.  Particularly if you partner it with a very large aperture scope.  BSA makes a few good ones.

the bullets from the M4 tumble and scatter beyond 50yds making lethality more efficient due to the superior twist of the 1:7 4150 barrel.

If you are shooting at 200yds and not getting 1 MOA patterns, you must have a 4140 steel barrel with 1:9 twist.

At shorter ranges, the 12 gauge shotgun is the best with 00 buck.

I forgot to add

Any brand name M4 is going to be more accurate than you, so "accuracy" shouldnt be a concern with such a weapon.

with Irons and a stock trigger, the results would varry depending on the shooter. good ammo would help ,and luck whould play a major role in the results . If  it can be done it would be a thing of beauty to behold. the weak link would be the shooter.

Pictured below is the best 10-shot group I've ever fired during accuracy testing of a Colt 14.5" M4 barrel at a distance of only 50 yards.  I'll let you do the math.

well, I deiced that something like a les baer is right down my alley, because I compete with my rifles, and I sometimes do a little plinking, but I do not joke around when I shoot match competitions.

I'm gonna kick myself for posting in this thread.. but here goes..

A stock M-4 shooting Issue M855 Ammo is a 4MOA gun ..
If your looking for what you describe then a stock M-4 is not for you.

And I would think if your that serious.. you would know this.

Can you shoot an iron sighted rifle at 200 yds and hold 1"???

cause I sure can't.. and I like to think I have a little trigger time behind AR's

I dont know very much about ar 15 rifles, Just know that the guy that posted the other topics is my BROTHER. He really couldn't answer my question so we asked the internet, but I usually shoot scoped bolt actions, and I have shot ar 15's but I want to get one for shooting competition.

How can you be a competitive rifle shooter and NOT know that a stock Bushmaster carbine will NOT print a 1'' group at 200 yards?

A stock AR-15 with factory ammo is a 2-4 MOA gun. With a little work, you can AR's to be sub-MOA. With a lot of work, they can get down to 1/2 MOA (1'' at 200 yards); but that high quality (handloaded) ammo and an experienced shooter.

It was not made to shoot 1/4 in. groups at 200m, it was made to hit a man sized target from 0-500m. It's a battle rifle

I'm not sure if 1 MOA is possible at 200yd unless you have a accurized weapon, regardless of which it is.

I think 2.5 MOA is much more acceptable and realistic.

The AR is probably the most accurate stock intermediate rifle, so you probably won't find anything better.
