Just figured I'd drop in and introduce myself.  I just ordered the lower for my first AR today, a complete A2 Stag.  I'm going the varmint route on it.  I've looked all over and it looks like my choices are to use the RRA 24" varmint upper half or the one from Model 1.  Anybody used Model 1 stuff?  Just wondering if it's worth the extra $100 for the RRA.  Also I was wondering if I buy the complete lower and the upper half will I need anymore parts?  I didn't notice either coming with the recoil spring so I wanted to be sure.

A complete lower may or may not come with a buffer/spring/tube.  Check the ad or call the company.  Make sure your upper comes with a bolt/carrier/gas key/charging handle.  Some of those ads with prices too good to be true leave out those parts.

Welocome!!! Something listed as a "complete" lower should absolutely come with the buffer and spring. If it didnt, it isnt complete. Good luck!!!

Alright, thanks guys.  The guy at the shop ordered the lower straight from Stag.  I'll be ordering the upper half straight from Rock River and they list it as having the carrier, bolt, and charging handle.   My dad was in the Corp. and he couldn't think of anything else that it would even possibly need.

Here are the 24" uppers I'm looking at (probably the RRA, unless it's not worth the extra money)

Howdy, welcome aboard!

A "complete A2 Stag" lower receiver should include the buffer and buffer spring.

The "complete" RRA upper will come with everything including the bolt carrier group and charging handle.  For the M1 upper you need to select the BCG and CH as they are options.  For RRA product, be sure and CALL the RRA dealers in the EE as prices will be cheaper than whats listed on RRAs website.

Afterwards, just slap the two halves together and you'll be good to go.

PS Don't forget the mags.

Yeah, my dad has a 30 round laying around from when he was in the Marines.  I'll probably order a 10 round though.  Do you guys think the RRA ($540) upper would be worth the $80 extra on the m1 ($460)?

Will a 20 round straight magazine clear shooting prone?

I know what you mean.  I already plan on doing a 16" m4gery later on.

it is shorter than the pistol grip, so i guess 'yes' would be the answer
