Just finished 1/2 case ( 500rnds. ) of Wolf ( Laquer coating ) through my RRA's Entry Tact. and I cant see any of the residue thats supposed to have coated my chamber. Looks clean as a whistle. This weapon does have the chrome lined bore and barrel option, but Ive read here that Wolf is still supposed to coat the living crap out of your gun. Again, very clean after a standard cleaning like I'd do on any of my guns. No coating. Am I missing something? I feel cheated

Kinda suprised you found some. Wonder if it cools off and doesn't come out. I doubt it builds up so heavily you can physically see it. Then again the laquer stuff was before my time in the Ar world, I started shooting Ar's in '05 and it was already gone by then.

I believe the issue was only or mostly with the early lacquer coated stuff. Likely also related to firing rate/chamber temp issues .

Not saying it's never happened, but no problems for me. And as I stated, it was the earlier laquer coated, not the newer poly stuff. You could see where the laquer had "ran" ( run? ) after the heat of the firing process, but nothing stuck or got left in the chamber or barrel. I was a little hessitent about buying it to begin with because of the stories, but I've got no horror stories to tell. I'll buy some more this weekend at the local funshow, but it will probably be the poly coated as the older stuff seems to be going or gone. Accuracy wasnt for shit, but I didnt expect it to be. I did run into the infamous pee smell of the burnt powder, but that was pretty subtle too.

Yes, I'm sure this stuff was a little older. I bought it in April of this year at a gunshow. The guy had buttloads ( can I say that? ) of the stuff. Probably 100k or more. Go figure.

I remember a few years ago when complaints were high that some member did a bit of a test and tried to get the lacquer coating to melt off a case using a torch.  IIRC there were no ill effects of the excessive heat to the lacquer.  This unscientifically ruled out the tale of the lacquer coating the chamber.  I think the goo and problems were later found to be related to the red sealant used on the primer and bullets.  Wolf did away with this sealant and most of the horror stories soon stopped.  I have also fired countless boxes of Wolf, old and new from my Bushy and have never had any problems.  You should also be able to find more information in the ammo forum.

I love Wolf ammo for what it is.  Cheap blastin.  I have shot over 20k rds of 223, 7.62 x 39, 45, 9mm, and 40 cal.  It IS SOME DIRTY SHIT w/ a hell of a nasty smell (223 nose to charging handle shooter).

End of world, of course not.  Just make sure to check the wear of the extractor and clean the BCG & chamber well.  Most guns can handle thousands upon thousands rounds of Wolf.  It' the extractor that will bear the brunt of the wear due to steel case.

The "coating" in question on the older stuff can easily cause headaches.  Usually the melting occurrs w/ FA or some very heavy heating up of the weapon.

The issue with the laqured stuff was not the laquer but the sealent on the case neck at the bullet..left this red jelly in the chambers throat and caused more problems in unlined barrels and chrome lined barrels with poor maintinence.

I had a problem with a wolf case getting stuck in my stag upper.  It was the only ammo I have had a problem with.  If other people have had this much luck with wolf I wonder if I wasn't running enough lube or something was wrong with my upper?  I shot a total of 600rds the day I had the problem with wolf.  I shot a mix of about 6 different brands looking for a replacement for my xm193 as plinking ammo.
