I tried searching and couldn't get any answers.

Instead of buying a vice block for $27.00 to $34.00

Would there be anything wrong with just using a magazine?

Since it's made of sheet metal and would probably get crushed in the vice, or twist and flex when hammering....What about filling it with a two part epoxy or fiberglass mix.

A 30rd mag cost about 9.95 and 5 dollars for epoxy or what ever material you would use.

Did anyone ever do this?

IIRC my lower receiver vise block cost ~$8 at a gun show. But yeah, I guess you could do it the way you describe. I'd try a block of wood first.

I'm not sure I undertstand what you're asking.  If you want a lower receiver block to hold it while installing the trigger and such then you can carve up a piece of wood to fit the mag well for less than the cost of a magazine and no need to sniff the fumes from epoxy.  Make sure you use something like oak because you don't want it to crack and break when torquing down a buffer tube.

Good thinking. But I think the wood would work to.

Spend the money and get the block.

get a block for torquing, but a shitted up mag works for other work.
