If you were only going to have one AR which style would it be and why?

My options are a 14.5/16". an 18" SPR, or a 20" A4 rifle.

Thanks for your input!

[#1]
16" lightweight, with adjustable /collapsable stock. chromelined, flat top, "F" maked front sight post.

at least that's what I have.
11/22/2007 10:34:43 AM EDT
[#2]
16'' midlenght barrel, medium profile, chrome lined, FF rail system, collapsible stock, both front and rear flip up iron sights
11/22/2007 10:38:41 AM EDT
[#3]
KISS carbine with a light.
11/22/2007 10:40:19 AM EDT
[#4]
A longrange, benchrest, target, varmint type AR with a 24" or longer barrel.

I like longrange shooting and they look the coolest.

[#5]
My fav is a UTE/Extended Sight Radius (Dissipator) 16" (law here) with a light.

I would have to say this one...

Loaded with some 75gr OTM...I'd say that it could do most anything you'd need a rifle to do.

ETA:  Especially when you keep an Aimpoint in another LaRue mount in your back pocket.
11/22/2007 10:50:32 AM EDT
[#7]
16" medium profile barrel (something like .75 all the way, not an HBAR), chrome-lined, flattop upper, FF railed handguard, and a QUALITY collapsible stock.

I'll leave the optics up to you. Iron sights are a must. Magnified, variable, or red dot, whatever you prefer.

This setup will do anything you want an AR to do reasonably well.

You just beat me to it.  The LMT monolithic rifles are VERY nice in person.  Only one gun,... nice choice.

And if you'll note, it has the 14.5 w/ Pinned Vortex instead of the far more common 16.  How many of those have you seen floating around...

ETA:  After careful consideration, I decided that it needs more cowbell LaRue...

And lets not forget my homemade high drag low speed ghost sites...

Until you consider that an 18" barrel gets nearly IDENTICAL ballistics from a shorter, lighter, & better balanced package...And that A2 Buttstocks suck donkey balls.

But yeah, other than that I guess you could be right.

Are you putting a VFG on that thing Wilson?

I go back & forth.  To tell the truth, it has the absolute SLIMMEST handguards of any railed rifle I've ever seen.  I should post a pic of the difference between these & a regular KAC rail.

Speaking of which, this is what I keep a vert grip on full time...

I know, I know.  Magnification on a carbine & a reflex optic on the 20".  I'm just Bass Ackwards.

There is no "could" about it.

The poster asked me what I would choose and I told him.  He didn't ask me what you would choose.

16" superlight w/ telestock & Aimpoint M4 Comp.  Some kind of light.

SP1 ( my favorite AR variant).

[#21]
20" chrome lined Govt profile barrel, standard handguards, KZ bayonet lug mount for light (right now I would put my M3X with a pigtail on it), VLTOR clubfoot carbine stock, A2 style pistol grip with the trapdoor in the bottom, and an A-1 carrying handle or LaRue BUIS.

Midlength, chrome bbl, liteweight w/ an A1 upper, collapsible stock.

Simple.

And lots and lots of ammo, mags.

I need to get a sling & a light.

I'll probably pick up a LaRue or Vickers sling & a Surefire of some sort.  I had the M900 but found it to be too heavy & offset the balance, so probably a scout light if I can allocate the funds for it.

16" Superlite, A-1 Upper and a telestock.

flat-top 24"  6.5 Grendel bull-barrel upper and a fixed 10x scope.

edit: doh.. Why?

Longer range ability, accurate, etc..

If you're only going to have 1, might as well have the one that'll shoot the best.

My Colt 6721 with Denny's-GTS 16" Operator midlength, medium contour barrel, LaRue 9.0, TD VFG, MIAD grip, Vltor EMOD kit, Surefire M961C, Troy BUIS, Aimpoint with LaRue cantilever QD mount and Viking Tactics-LaRue VTAC two point sling

You will get a lot of different answers because everybody have different opinions on how to use their AR.

If you could decide what will be the main purpose of your AR it will be easier to make a choice.

My main purpose is SHTF, short to medium range accuracy and reliability.

I prefer the midlength gas system for a smoother action, more handguard area for my accessories/ hand, longer sight radius and the medium contour barrel for heat resistance because I live in a desert.

My other three ARs are LMT M4 16" mainly for home defense, Colt A2 20" gov't profile barrel rifle for CMP also medium range shooting and RRA 9mm A4 16" carbine for plinking fun and indoor range practice.

probably the 16" that you turn into a REECE/RECON rifle.  That way you have the flexibility of a carbine with the advantages of a SPR and that of a carbine.

mine would be my A3, 16" RRA C-L 1-9 twist midlength, w/ a MP M93 stock

of your choices, i'd opt for the 18" spr, unless its too heavy, in which case, the 16"

20" Rifle, A3/A4 flattop, Vltor A1 length rifle buttstock.

Currently I'm down to one, sold the rest and like this one best.
CMMG 16" Midlength chrome-lined lightweight upper, DD 9.0 AR Lite rail, Mega lower with SOPMOD stock and sto-grip. For me, it's the perfect AR.

can't do just one. don't have a favorite. my main goto is a 16" cmmg barrel setup with MUR/casv-el/magpul/acog/.. etc...

it gets 80% of the use but i'll never grow tired of my heavy ass varmint rig. thats 2 distinctly different AR configurations, and the parts left over after the builds can't go to waste so..
it works out to a 5 AR minimum.

just one?!?!  you must be smokin, crack.

14.5" Colt M4, TA01NSN-MRD, KAC RAS, Surefire light, MATECH BUIS, Grippod, Gear Sector sling, PEQ-2A and NODs.

FA if I could, but probably not

I can think of few scenarios where that wouldn't do the job.  If it was one AR, that'd have to be it.

20" A2. You can buy a mount that goes on the carry handle and runs over the handguards so you can mount a red dot sight that cowitnesses with the iron sights. The 20" barrel with ring all the energy out of the 5.56 round you can get. Keep in mind I aint going around kicking in doors and doing house to house searches for insergents, in that case the shorter 14.5 or 16" barrels would make more sense. YMMV though.

My current 14.5" gun would most likely be it.   I would (will soon be) adding a DD 7" Lite free float.

And if it had to be my 1 and only, I would have my current Aim Point in a LeRue goose neck mount and my TA31F in a LaRue mount as well.  So I can swap between the two sights as needed.

OH and I would also have to have a HALO for it And select fire would be a nice option if it were avaliable

lets bring this back up..

I've acquired a Bushmaster lower with A2 stock and now need to find an upper.

I'm probably going to end up putting a CTR on it at some point but this is what I have for now.

So, which upper?

Good suggestions so far, though.  Thanks!

Speaking generically, assuming 1 AR15, a 16" midlength flattop w/ an adjustable stock would indisputably give you the most versatility.

As for the bells & whistles, have at it.  You'll get a thousand opinions here.
