I have an OLY Arms PCR rifle with a slot cut in the barrel close to the muzzle. I believe this was for an aftermarket setscrew type hider/break. Will there be any problems threading the barrel with this feature.

Thanks

No problems. It's been done thousands of times.

Awesome. So I guess the threads are deeper than the slot?

Contact ADCO or AR15barrels.com, they can square you away.

Yup, the correct O.D. for 1/2 X 28 threads is .498.  They'll cut it down and thread it. Don't try it at home unless you have a lathe capable of cutting threads.

Sounds like a pretty standard job for a gunsmith. Im goin to try to find one in my area.
Thanks for the info.

I'd find a gunsmith that specializes in AR-15s.

Anyone no about how much it cost to get a barrel threaded?

Sounds like you've had the same experiences with "gunsmiths" as I have.  It's so bad, I just decided to learn how to do my own stuff.

If you take this rifle to joe-blow fudd gun blacksmith, you might not like the results.

Adco did my post-ban Oly barrel for around $70-75 in late 2004.

Check out my two references posted above. Both are AR15.com Industry Partners with Industry Forums and links to their respective web sites.

I never knew it mattered. What is different about threading an AR barrel vs. any other weapon barrel?

Depends on the gunsmith.  I know a local gunsmith who refuses to touch AR barrels. He says it might interfere with barrel harmonics.  I say he's a Fudd.

My buddy works for a fab/machine shop. I've had them turn and thread a couple barrels for me.
