Basically this started life as enough spare parts to put together;

* - An older Superior Arms receiver (before they added trigger screw thingy)
* - Colt 1/7 Match Target barrel found a few years ago in EE for $75, minus a front sight base
* - bolt of unknown heritage
* - lower receiver was on a retro kit that I bought a NDS lower for, so this was "just laying around unused" - can't have that!
* - Simmons 1.5x5x Whitetail Classic scope
* - Harris bipod I've had kicking around for 15+ yrs.

Decided I had enough to build a rifle. I just needed a few more parts. So I went shopping:

* - YHM lightweight rifle handguards from PKArms
* - YHM clamp-on gas block with flip-up sight and bayo lug, also from PKA
* - YHM bopod mount - PKA
* - Bolt carrier group from ADCO because it's a WOA's unit for $115. So I still have a spare bolt
* - Replaced the see-thru rings after the first outing with a LaRue base. Expensive but OMG!
* - Black TD foregrip. EE, new for $45 shipped. Painted it and the buttstock with Krylon camo OD paint. Of course the day after it arrived I was at the gunsmith's shop and he had a new TD in OD for $46. <slapforehead> Such is my luck.
* - MagPul rail covers at the gunshow last weekend. $10ea/4 for $36. So I bought 8 and have a full spare cover, a couple of leftover ladder pieces and a couple leftover rail cover pieces

Thought the original trigger was pretty good, until the second outing.

So I bought a Gieselle HiSpeed Service Rifle trigger. Expensive but OMG! for the second time!

Some how this "cheap, spare parts" build got out of hand. Now how did that happen?

Damned BRD

Thanks, got one coming.

Also any ideas on what a good sling would be for this type of heavy beotch?

I've kinda' been eyeballing the Vicker's slings but was thinking they were more for carbines. And was leaning towards my 6.8 carbine build next spring.

Guess I'll have to take a closer look at them. Thanks!

Nice setup, Bob.

I have a J&T kit rifle that was my first AR sitting unused in the safe. It is a A2 20" HBAR 1/9  with a FF tube on it and a RRA NM trigger I later added. I have been thinking about taking the A2 upper off of it and replacing it with a flattop and scope. No backup sights need apply. Your rifle just gets the juices flowing for that project. Unfortunately, I have a lot of irons in the fire right now. 2 receivers are coming from the CMP for a Garand Tanker build and a shooter build. I am in the middle of a 1911 upgrade on a Sistema Colt. I also need to finish my 12 gauge Model 11 riot build. I need to paint a few rooms in the house, as well as caulk all around the exterior. Damn, the older I get, the busier I get.

FMJ,

Was it something like this? A little something to persuade you to get/build another.

Actually it was more like this:

The lower receiver to the 6601 HBAR went to make the carbine on the bottom. Then I got the Superior lower and added the parts from the 6601 to it. At the same time I got a Stag lower, molyresined it to make the retro 604 in the middle.

When the NDS retro lowers came out I bought an XM16E1 lower for the 604 and a N16A1 lower for a 603 (M16A1) not pictured.

Now I had a molyresined lower with the right color. So the 6601 parts went to it. That left me a black lower, fully assembled and looking for a home.

It's been kinda' a shell game the last few months.

Nice build.

I would recommend the Viking-Tactics-LaRue VTAC padded sling or if you could wait a little Blue Force Gear is going to release a padded version of their Vickers VCAS as soon as they completed their testing and evaluation.

I'm using the VTAC padded sling on my 11 lbs. (fully loaded) heavy Operator midlength medium contour carbine with 9" FF rails, EMOD, Surefire M961C light, Aimpoint and magnifier, the VTAC is more comfortable then my BFG Vickers sling.

Thanks AR3. I'm not in that big of a hurry for the sling so I can wait.
