what are the advantages or disadvantages of using a free float tube vs a standard handguard

no strain on the barrel with a FF. while most people will not notice a difference in terms of accuracy with a non-FF I just assume have it as its one less thing to worry about

Other than look,s not much. If you were going to use a bipod and want the best in accuracy I would go with a FF tube.

I think I am goin to go with  YHM customizable FF handguard so in the future if I want to add some rails I have the option

You should also take a look at the JP V-Tac.  I just installed a rifle legth on my middy last week.  This one also lets you add rails (from 2" to 12" long) anywhere you need them.

Just shot mine today for the first time after installing the V-Tac.  I really like the feel of this handguard compaired to the stock handguards.  Now all I need to do is buy a front flip up sight for it (now I'll have a rifle length sight radius instead of mid legth radius).

They are only around $149.00 and look to be alot better than the YHM (never had a YHM personally, the Jp V-Tac just looks alot more thought out)

I went with a Daniels Defense on my AR-10.  Haven't been able to get it to the range yet to break in the barrel.  Once I do, it'll get some accuracy tests' done.  All my AR's have FF tubes, as stated above, one less thing to worry about effecting accuracy.
