Well I am getting my first AR....a Colt 6920...I just wish the FFL would get off his buttai and fax his license it over to the seller....Y'a think 4 days is to long to wait for a fax? Maybe 5...I'll have to check today...but geeze, I could have taken it to the range Sunday...now I can't. Maybe I can take my new Kel-Tec PLR-16 out instead... Anyway, I'm asking some questions on stuff to fit on my new AR. It comes with a handle and 16.1" barrel. Most of you are probably familiar with the Colt 6920 anyway. Some experienced feedback would be most welcome. My thoughts are to put a Trijicon TA31 DOC scope on it http://www.umlautarms.com/store/images/Trijicon/TA31DOC.jpg and was thinking of putting a A.R.M.S. S.I.R. frontend on it. www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=63 www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=51 http://armsmount.bizatomic.net/images/img769427.jpg www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=90 www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=48 Maybe add a verticle grip and tripod at some point. Red laser dot/flashlight, etc. I want to deck it out. If I put the scope on it, does the carry handle have to come off? I see a lot of pics of peoples AR's with scopes and without carry handle. Will that S.I.R. give me all the functionality I need? Are there any "bolt on" mods that I do to this rifle that classify it differently with the ATF and need to apply for AOW/NFA stuff? Thanks for feedback! Can wait to get my AR... |

If you're going to run that scope, fine choice, you might want to consider a ff rail that doesn't include it's own rail mount. Like a DD lite or the new Omega. if you do want a rail that mounts to the rail on the upper consider the VLTOR CASV-EL over the ARMS SIR. It's Lighter, not plastic and equally if not more rigid in the way the bottom section locks up. I think the price is less as well. Of all the differences I think the weight difference is the most significant. ETA - the CASV will shroud your front sight on the sides. Welcome aboard |

A 6920 is a great choice. Just remember, it's a carbine. This is not a long range precision weapon. You will do best to keep the rifle as light as possible. Keep an eye on the EE for a KAC M4 RAS. It will be a better choice for a rail then the SIRS. You can usually find a complete kit including vertical fore grip and rail covers for around $225-$230. Look at LaRue tactical for a flashlight/mount package. It's great quality at a good price. If you want a magnified optic, the Acog is an excellent choice, but it will add weight. While you're on the Larue website, look at the Comp M3 and M4 Aimpoints. They are the best, most durable 1 to1 optics made. They can also be purchased in a package deal with a mount. ETA Forget the bipod. Save that for the rifle length gun you buy next |
