anybody have problems with SBR's in cold weather? what length? what temp? |
|
I am not 100% sure I can attribute it to the cold however at the same time I don't know what else it could have been. M16 with 10 1/2 upper (fatboy gas tube) wouldn't cycle in FA and hardly ever on semi when it was in the 30's out. I never did figure our why considering it worked just fine this summer. Should it have . . . hell no! |

I would suspect if your SBR is not running right in the cold it would be related to the lube. I do not think cold could contribute to anything that would stop an SBR from running right while not affecting a 16" barrel. I have been out in below zero weather with zero problems. |

Have you had any work done with the gas block say for a low profile and free-float. The only reason I ask is that gases (like solids and liquids) do act differently at different temps. As gas cools, the molicules move more slowly resulting in lower pressures. It may serve you well if you have done some mods to it to have a smith revisit the gas block and tube because perhaps the way it is set up, when fired in the cold the block/tube does not allow the pressure to build high enough to cycle or could be a leak at the block causing it not to send the gas back down into the chamber. I say this because a leak of gas under pressure is stripping energy from the gas and in doing so cooling it further. The problem may be exacerbated by the cold outside environment. Physics of Gases, it's fun for the whole family. |
