| How come no one ever talks about OLY ars? |
I'd say that is a fair assesment. Oly actually comes out with a lot of good ideas. Problem is, their products tend to be the bottom of the barrel. |
Come on, let it rip, you know you want to.
|
The difference is that almost nobody buys hesse/vulcan/blackthorne. They are so bad as to be akin to a morbidly obese girl at closing time. NOBODY but the biggest moron is taking her home. Olympic is kinda like that 20lbs overweight girl who is a sure thing. A decent amount of guys are drunk enough to try and tag her. Arfcom is like your sober wingman - we steer you away from her, get you home, and when you sober up in the morning, you'll thank us. |

Oly's were never consistent. I had two during the ban and they were both decent for allowing me to have normal pre-ban features. Once the ban was gone, there was no reason to have an Oly. The ones I had accepted all mags, were forged, and were in-spec in regards to accepting Colt lower parts kits, etc. In retrospect, I should have kept them, but had moved on to LMT, Colt and ArmaLite lowers. |
That is the best summary of Olympic Arms I've ever read. Well done. |
Not only are Olys the 20lb overweight girl. They are the same girl with more diseases than the monkey from Outbreak. |
Hmmm so you formed an opinion based on what you read on the internet. We all know how acurate the internet is. ![]() Why don't you form a real opinion from real world experiance.
Very well done.
Mine too!
No, they are no where near as bad as colt. The crap that colt owners breath out every time I see one escapes me. How can one be so igonorant to the Extremly shitty service and lack the knowledge of what the second ammendment is all about. Colt can go fly a kite. The biggest difference between COLT and OLY. Oly has flaws and they admit them. Colt has flaws and they will die before they admit it. Oly put out the crappy cast lowers and offered to replace them for free at one point. They made good on that offer for many people. However for some people that are so stuped they would rather have a cast lower and refuse to let oly fix the problem, JUST SO THEY HAVE A REASON TO COMPLAIN! |

Everyone is intitled to their opinion. It's the Ford/Chevy thing Colt is the only company that proof test every bolt and barrel and then does a MPI. If your bolt isn't stamped MPI it wasn't tested no matter what who ever you bought it from says. The 16"HBAR I have is the only factory AR I have had in 17 years that shoots sub MOA consistently out of the box. I don't know too much about Oly now. but I'd say EA and model 1 are pretty far down the list. |

I built my first AR with a stripped Oly upper and lower and I love it. I only have about 3500 rounds through it but it's has never malfunctioned yet. That really doesn't say anything about the upper and lower though. I used an LMT LPK and everything fit like it should. The fit and finish are great and the upper and lower have a nice tight fight. I personally like them although every time I go the range there is somebody there telling me how bad those rifles are. How my cast lower (mine is forged, the have not used cast lowers for years) is going to break and everything is out of spec, etc.... I have not bought a whole rifle from them but I think there are decent guns. Like one poster said above, the had QC issues and they still do with their line of 1911's. I think they have worked it all out on the AR side of the house. I have seen the groups that guys shoot using their barrels and it is impressive. They are a good deal if you don't want to shoot 5.56. (they are chambered for .223, if I'm not mistaken) They do have a bad reputation with a lot of shooters, but they have overcome the reason behind it. I don't know about CS over the phone, but they always go out of their way to help me when I go to the factory. (right down the road) The also give me a huge discount because I'm in the military. I have actually got small parts for free from them. (A1 flash hider, charging handle and a bunch of springs and pins) I have never had a problem with anything they sold me so I can't comment on the CS is regards to broke stuff. This does seem to come up often here and normally it's just guy's bashing them without too much to back it up. I have seen the proof though. It was there not to long ago. But keep in mind, Oly has been making AR's for a long time. They have been doing it for years. I want to say the only ones that have been around longer are Colt and Armalite. That may be incorrect but they go back quite some time. |

I absolutely love their pistol-caliber carbines, especially my latest one that uses unmodified Glock mags (I'm a Glock guy, so that one was a natural for me). I've also had good service out of some of their old "CAR" carbines and some assorted odd-caliber uppers. BUT, there are enough people here whose experience/opinions I trust who have had real problems with them that I don't jump straight to their defense as I once might have. I've had good service out of their products but you might not, and I can't speak to their customer service first-hand, so...
