I've got some questions for you smart folks out there.

I'm almost done finalizing my order for 3 Anvil Arms lowers. Jon, at Anvil Arms, said he uses very good quality LPK for his lowers but he didn't mention any names. He just said they were his brand.

Anyway, if I am going to use KNS pins, Aluminum mag releases, ambi selectors, MIAD grips, and probably Timney triggers (or another aftermarket trigger) should I even have the lowers assembled by them? or can I just buy whatever small parts I will need to finish them aside from the parts I have listed above?

I'm going to call and get him paid tomorrow so I need to make my decision pretty damn quick.

Thanks for any tips or info.

If you are buying parts for all three I would check out one of the parts people like Sherluk and price it out for the parts you need.. It might be cheaper but I would probably just buy complete kits and then you have extra parts for the parts bin..

Do the install yourself.

Any other opinions?

I would buy the LPK and keep the extra's on hand.

I'd just build it all yourself.

The only parts that made me twitch were the bolt stop pin (tape up the lower so you don't bark it) and the trigger guard pin (have you seen the thread where the guy broke off one frame ear?  Make sure the lower ear is well supported while you tap it in).
Beyond that, lowers are a day at the beach.  Build it yourself.

Cool, it looks like I will just order the lowers stripped so I can assemble my first one by myself. Got to learn some time!

Can someone point me in the right direction as far as what size punches I need to buy so I can assemble all 4 of these lowers? Can't I just go to the store and buy the punches? they aren't size-specific to AR's correct?

Any other minor tools I will need?

Thanks

With the parts you plan to use you might want to look into the White Oak triggerless LPK that Adco has - it offers a MIAD upgrade and saves having to buy a trigger you're not going to use.

Haha I was JUST looking at those!

I've already called Denny and ordered 2 full sets of furniture in different colors, more matching Pmags, KNS pins, Buffer tubes, buffers, sling adaptors etc etc.

I'm getting ready to build these bad boys.

I'll either go with the White Oak kit or just buy the full CMT/Stag kits from Denny and have leftover parts.

Don't use punches, use vice grips. Don't tape up the receiver, tape up the vice grips. The only (unusual) tool you really need is the castle nut wrench, which you can get for about $5.

The trickiest part is the stupid detent & spring for the pivot pin. They make a special tool for that, but I never really had much trouble with it.

Go here for the pivot pin tool. $2.50 or so at Lowes
