I have been reading this forum for the past couple days and it is a wealth of knowledge.  There is so much here that my head is spinning, but I a better idea of what I want.

I really don't think I want to build a AR for my first one, unless someone can convince me that it is very easy to do and it would be worth the money savings.

I want to get a AR, that will mostly be a Safe Queen.  I want a AR that will hold it's value or go up if all possible, so I don't mind spending more upfront to get something of quality.  When I do use it will be probably be for a little target practice and some groundhogs.  I am looking to spend around $1000.00 plus or minus a couple of hundred.  I plan on adding a scope down the road and I know they are very costly, so the price above does not include a scope.

I would appreciate any suggestions on what to look for.

I did have someone tell me I could do this build below and it would be of high quality, but like I mentioned I know very little.  This was from another forum.

height=8
LMT are considered some of the best and is what envogue these days. They are milspec rifles and have all the cool features of a Colt such as 1/7 twist barrel, chrome line bore and chambering, 5.56 NATO chambering, etc. You can buy the LMT basically complete for $980.. and I would put this rifle against any rifle.

$330 for LMT Defender Lower
$485 for LMT 16 upper
$130 for LMT Bolt Carrier Group

Put in the bolt, attach upper to lower via pins and you have a complete kickass rifle that is considered among the best.

I guess you would be talking about a Colt 6920?  I don't even know if I could find one of these in MD.  I wonder if I could have one transfered to a FFL?

Thanks for the info.  What would you guys think of the build listed above, compared to a Colt 6920 or something else?

I put together a post for questions like yours here.  The short answer is that the best is likely a colt, with LMT and Sabre very close behind.  You will probably be just as happy with a CMMG, Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA, Stag, or one of the other good brands on the board.  Stay away from Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorne.

If you find the post linked useful, please bump it as it has been a while.

If you want a rifle that will hold it's value then that means buying a Colt. There are other brands that are of excellent quality as well, but a Colt is what everyone will pay the most for.
