I am ready to get into an AR but I need some advice or opinions so here goes. I want to use the rifle first and foremost as a varmint gun and second as a target gun only weekend stuff nothing serious. Should I buy a rifle or build my own should it be a 16 or 20" barrel match grade or custom?Lastly I need this thing to weight as little as possible. Any advice/suggestions are welcome since I am new to the AR world..Thanks

Get a RRA 20" Varmit upper and built your own lower with a 2 stage RRA trigger set up.

If you want it to weigh as little as possible I would suggest a 16in barrel. I would get a free floating hand guard and put a bipod on it. Drop in the 2 stage trigger of your choice and put a nice scope on it. Change the stock if you want, I would stick with a normal a2 but its up to you.

I personally do not like building my own rifles. I just buy a complete lower and upper and put them together.

Many companies also have pre built rifles that they consider their Varmint rifle. Just look around all the different companies here and see if there is one you like.

Welcome and good luck.

I would get a REGULAR 20inch rifle Bushmaster or RRA

Varmint will be EXTRA HEAVY

plus a regular AR15 rifle can HUNT and Protect

DPMS makes the best match gun in the AR world IMO, Armalite a close second

Would you consider an 18" heavy varmint barrel?  Sounds like it would balance well in a shorter package and would look cool too.
