Anyone have a recommendation for a bench rest I can use for my AR when sighting in or maybe cleaning? I've tried several types of bench rests, but the pistol grip just gets in the way. I would like one I could use with a 30 round mag, but I can buy a smaller mag if I have to compromise. Right now I'm using sandbags, which are a pain...

Surely there's one out there? I did a search here and didn't find anything.

How 'bout a quick detach bi-pod up front, and if you have a PRS stock, a mono-pod in the back??

Thanks for replying. Do to the lack of responses, I guess nobody else here has ever come across this problem.

We'll, I thought of that, but it allows for only one height in front. I don't think I've seen a mono pod. By that I assume you mean something that is adjustable from the rear?

Thanks..

I use this Rifle rest

The pistol grip barely clears the knob in the middle and I have to tilt the rifle up to change out a 30 round mag. But I have used it for my AR15 and AR10 several times with great results.
Looking at the web site I believe this rest would be better off as it will allow you to raise the back of the rifle to get the clearance you need, although the stock just lays there instead of fitting in place like the one I have.Cabela's sharpshooter rest

As for a cleaning rest I like this but just have not bought one yet
cleaning station
This is nicer but more expensive gun vise

Here is a picture with my AR-15 on it.
I usually take along a small board if I need to raise the front or back more. Easier to make a big adjustment then fine tune with the knobs on the rest.

I use this one (HySkore rest) for sighting in my SPR - it has enough mounting options to clear the rifle plus a 30 round mag which is tough for most of the rests to be able to do.  It is not super rigid but gets the job done.  I'm sure it works fine for cleaning but I just lock the barrel assembly down in a vise for that.

I think I saw this one at the range the other day. It was a bit flimsy, as the reviews on Cabelas state, but the guys seemed happy with it...

Thanks...

Thanks for the links. Something to think about. Is the platform very stable when you have the front rest jacked up so high? Do you think a couple of sandbags might help?

Thanks...

I use the Model 500 for sighting in:  www.targetshooting.com/

The front locks down tight so there is no movement there.
Next time out I will take a video cam with me and video my setup.

I use a harris bi-pod to sight in and before that I used a sand bag or my rang bag to rest the rifle on

This was made for me by our welder at work. It is adjustable by loosening a bolt undr the bottom frame and sliding it in or out. The tray holds a few shot bags. This is my LR.308 but it works fine for my AR's also.

A Caldwell Rock in the front and sandbags in the rear worked for me.
