I don't know about the Knights Armament trigger, but if you put a standard M-16 trigger group in semi-auto AR-15 you are in possession of an unregistered machine gun. Whether or not it fires automatic, at least in the BATF's eyes it's a machine gun. You can use M-16 parts if you want, but you have to modify them with a grinder to make them acceptable to the ATF .

I believe that the M16 trigger group is capable of slam-firing in a full auto fashion if an auto sear is not also installed. Dangerous and illegal. You might be able to modify the parts (e.g. by using and AR15 disconnector, grinding off the extra hammer hook etc.), but I'd avoid this mod altogether - there are plenty of excellent AR15 match triggers out there to choose from.
