I finally bought some FDE furniture from Magpul and have no idea how to remove my bushy 6 position stock and install the Magpul unit. I know it's something simple though so don't laugh at me too hard. Dan |

First, your Bushy stock uses a commercial diameter tube, so I hope you bought a commercial diameter Magpul stock. To remove the Bushy stock, pull DOWN on the latch, rather than up, and pull it off the back. If you bought a whole new buffer tube, you'll need to unscrew the castle nut at the back of the receiver. Usually you use a stock nut wrench for this. Then you unscrew the buffer tube, taking care to retain the rear takedown spring and detent, and the buffer retaining spring and detent. |

To do that you'll have to remove the buffer tube. If you look at the rear of your receiver, you'll see a plate between the buffer tube and the receiver. The Vltor mount replaces that plate. You'll have to unscrew the castle nut and pull the plate back, taking care not to lose the spring and detent for the rear takedown pin, which will come out of the rear of the receiver. Then, start unscrewing the buffer tube. Be careful not to lose the buffer retaining pin and its spring, which will pop out after a turn or two of the tube. Once you have the tube unscrewed, swap out the plates, and then put it back on in the reverse order. |

Glad Phoebe is takin care of ya good. I wanted to add for the record, there isn't a such thing as a dumb question. Forget about the jackasses in GD and remember that we're here as a community of gunnuts to share knowledge. ANY question you have, ask away. And if any one gets out of line, the mods will not tolerate it for one second in the tech forums. Now post pics of it |
| As Pheobus mentioned, you'll need a stock wrench to remove your receiver extension. Provided the "castle nut" is not staked. During the removal process take care not to allow your take down pin spring to rocket out of it's lil hole once the end plate is loosened. Also...unscrew the castle nut slowly as far back as it will go, slowly release the pressure on the end plate & account for the take down spring & then unscrew the tube from the lower. Failure to take care of this may result in damaging the external threads on the tube if you just try to unscrew it from the lower if the end plate wants to remain stationary or do its own thing. I've screwed up two tubes on my first personally owned AR while not paying attention to the end plate's position during removal. |
Looks good! Def. just go ahead and build another rifle. |
