Is a combination of the black insert, Crane O ring, and new chrome silicon extractor springs TOO much extractor ass? Or is that just what I need when rebuilding? Been experiencing some FTEs in some older rifles...and a buddy pointed out the BFO that it may just be a weak extractor... |

Using a D-Fender takes all the guesswork out of it. The D-Fender is engineered to increase the extractor tension exactly to the right amount, all by itself. Just drop it in around the spring, and forget about it for the life of your bolt. Yes, I know it costs more. |

it does cost more... BUT I just skip one mag for each new AR and pick one up. when installing it, you can do it by hand (the "crane" o-ring usually takes a lot of pressure to install). the DFender slips in perfectly. Really, when you are installing the 2, one looks factory and one looks wecsog. ;) I don't work for or with MGI, but it seems silly to me to scour the internet for ways to save $10 when you are working on a $1000 rifle... The government often (always) chooses the cheapest fix that works acceptably- that is not the same as "the best". Soap box off.

The stock springs work fine, even in my suppressed 14.5". I will probably use a Crane O-Ring in my 10.5". I have absolutely nothing to back it up, but it seems to me that too much spring pressure would not be good. It seems that it could cause more stress on the extractor, since the extrator has to jump the case head everytime you chamber a round. That is a lot of stress to put on a small piece of metal. |

+1 I have 20" A4, a 16" M4, and a 10.5 SBR and I run Wolff extra power extractor springs and black inserts in them all and they run perfect. No need for D-fender and o-ring B.S. |
| I have a 20 year old colt that has run thousands of rounds with the original extractor spring and buffer, no malfunctions or mishaps. Only this year did I replace the spring and buffer with milspec parts, along with a new recoil buffer and spring. I'm not sold on these "upgrades" when they maybe aren't needed. |
I use the D-Fender + Wolff XP spring + Black insert in my 16" M4. I actually ran into a few stuck cases even with this combination (extractor lost grip of case, then slammed home again forcing me to extract it manually). granted, it was from switching between 22LR (Ciener) and Wolf 223 Rem. After the initial break-in of the barrel, I've never run into a stuck case using the D-fender if I stick with one caliber (223 Rem/5.56N only). I guess the point of my story is that if the chamber is really filled with debris (Carbon, lead), then you can still run into FTEx's even with the extractor add-ons. |
| Ive been using a wolf x power spring with a blue insert for 4 years and that combo with a baer chromed extractor has been great.Plus with an LMT enhanced carrier extraction has never been easier.Just got some kits from bravo company gonna replace the spring and blue insert with the black and new spring...proabbly wont need the o ring. |

Ok, so I got the black insert, new spring and O-ring from Bravo... Which way do they go in? Currently I have the base of the insert touching the bolt with the spring touching the extractor and over the insert of course, and the O-ring over the spring. Seemed the best way for it to go together... -V |
