What's a good muzzle brake, that actually works not just for the look and where can I find them. Thanks.

1st - Welcome to the boards.

2nd - Thank you for spelling "brake" correctly.

3rd - Pretty much all of them are effective and it's not like 5.56 has much recoil to begin with.  Most effective is probably the brake from JP Arms.  Other good options are the AK brake like Bushmaster sells, the Mini-Y comp from YHM and the brake from Smith Enterprises.  KKF and EDW make effective brakes that are designed to look like an A2-style flash hider.

4th - Friends don't let friends put muzzle brakes on AR-styled rifles.  It increases noise and the 5.56 doesn't have any recoil to speak of to begin with.

Not all of us have a choice in getting a brake or supressor, but if by law you need one in your state even the $35 tactical one from rra made a noticeable differance over the a2 style for the muzzle jump.

PRI/MSTN Quiet Control brake (Quieter to the shooter, often annoying to adjacent shooters--but if they were dedicated an focused enthusiasts a little pulse of warm air shouldn't distract them).

I used a DNTC brake on a build I did for my wife.  It's not very loud and give you straight back soft recoil with almost no muzzle rise.

I got it from Rainier Arms Link

Search for "DNTC"

Cheers,

Years ago, I had a 16" Bushmaster with the AK-74 style brake and it worked great.  Like shooting a .22 with zero barrel rise.  The only problem was it eroded quickly and probably only lasted a few hundred rounds.  I sold the gun after only a couple hundred rounds so I didn't find out for sure.

MSTN QC, Ben Cooley (best), and Mikulik are the best comps/brakes i'd consider

My suggestion; but several different models that have been rated well here, and experiment. What one guy/gal likes, is not anothers favorite. Dont for get a crush washer apiece. Forhet about the peel washers though. PITA IMHO.

You could give this one a try.  You won't be disappointed with it's performance.

Additionally, here is some video footage of the comp in action.  Notice how fast the shot-to-shot splits are and how flat the muzzle stays.

IM me if you want to know where to purchase one.

Good shooting,

If I have a .270 rifle threaded for something with 1/2x28 (most .223 muzzle brakes).  Which of those would be best for a single shot bolt action rifle?  The JP one looks fairly effective.

I was at the firing range one day and the guy next to me was shooting an AR-15 but the freaking thing was LOUD.  I asked what caliber was he shooting and he said .223 rem.  He said it was loud because it had a muzzle brake on it.  Damn, it barked like a straight pipe Harley.

Ya I don't shoot at a public range for that reason.  There is normally one guy there with a gun so loud I actually have to try and time my shots in between his.

The last time I shot this at a public range, the Fudd's either side of me just about soiled their tighty-whiteys :

I like to shoot this upper in full auto because it is easy to control.  It's got a JP Enterprises Recoil Eliminator comp on it.  Along with recoil, it is also good at eliminating guys shooting next to you.  I've had guys comment on the noise but what do you expect, it's a shooting range.  If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.  Hell, I've shot next to a guy shooting a 300 Win Mag with a Boss comp on it.  Now that's some noise.

Well... I guess if you can't shoot something then it doesn't really matter if the gun looks nice. It would be like your hot young girl opening her mouth and having a voice deeper then deep and having a laugh like a hyena.
