In terms of accuracy is it worth the extra money to have the barrel free float or not?

I hate it when people don't post descriptive thread titles. If you searched, you would not have found this thread from last week. So here it is:

Yes it is.  I can't give you the really good explanation that some can.  You know the explanation that makes you immediately pull out your cradit card because they justified your purchase that well with their explanation.   But basically, pressure applied to the handguards whether by sling or whatever can slighlty change you point of impact.  With teh low cost of some of the free float tubes availabe now, if you want accuracy it is definately worth it to float the barrel

from what I have heard, free float handguards won't shrink your group any more than 1/4 moa.
In my opinion, there are a number of other ways to increase accuracy that is more cost effective before worrying about FF handguards.

Molon got 1/2 moa in his tacked thread, and that was without pressure like slinging up would  put on the barrel. I'm doing some biathlon competitions soon where we have to run miles and then shoot 200-300 meters for accuracy. Slinging up is a must and I would NOT attempt it with a non FF barrel and expect to be competitive.
