I purchased a lower from some one who lives in another state. I paid for it and now comes the time to get it sent to me and I'm having a problem getting it transfered. The gentelman that i purchased it from is a private individual. My local FFL is telling me he can only send his Lic. to another FFL. The gentelman who i purchased it from is insisting that he does not need a FFL to transfer it to my dealer. He insists that he does this all the time and never needed a FFL to sell firearms to others as long as the person buying said firearms has a FFL to receive it and complete the transfer. This is my first time doing this and i tend to believe my local dealer. Please help me understand the way this works. I will try to find another FFL to complete the transaction in the mean time.hinking.gif |

A FFL can do business with who ever they want, but it is legal for them to accept a firearm from a non FFL. If you can find another FFL to do it he will need all the info from the seller. In fact a photocopy of the sellers drivers license would be great! I've run into guys that won't accept shipment other than from another FFL, needless to say they don't get any(more) of my dollars. my normal FFL dealer was on vacation a couple of weeks ago, so I had a stripped lower sent to another shop and..... the guy threw a shit fit swearing at me for getting him into an illegal transfer blah blah, i finally got him calmed down enough to call the atf branch in Buffallo NY and they told him "yeah, no problem". this guy then apologized to me and didn't charge me for the transfer, but I still will not go back there. seems like you should be required to know the laws if you have a FFL. ETA yes it is legal sorry for the rant |
What state is the guy from? You could throw in the extra cash for him to have an FFL send it to your FFL. |
Yet another FFL Holder who DOES NOT KNOW THE LAW?
