I have purchased a free float railed handguard from the EE and want to install it on my Bushmaster. Since I have never attempted anything like this but really want to do the work myself I have a few questions, but before I ask them let me give some info on my rifle. It is an H-Bar carbine that has the original FSB and has an aftermarket railed handguard (non-FF) that I put on it myself. Good news (I think) is that because I live in N.J. (O.K., we all know that's bad news!) I cannot have a threaded barrel, therefore when I bought the rifle I got it with no FH/brake whatsoever so that should make removing the gas block easy. First question: Am I correct in thinking that an H-Bar's diameter is .750? 2.) Could someone please tell me how to put on the railed FF handguard (the railed handguard that I previously put on it was easy-just used a HG tool to take the factory HG's off and used it again to put the new HG's on)? 3.) I believe that I have to remove the FSB to put on the FF HG (I want to put on a low profile or railed gas block so I have to do this anyway), if so, could you please explain how to do this. 4.) Since I am going to put on an aftermarket gas block I figure that it would be best to get the type with the set screws? What type works better-the ones where the set screws are on the bottom or the ones that are on the side of the block? 5.) How do I know when the gas block is properly positioned over the gas hole on the top of the barrel? 6.) Is there anything else that I need to do? such as putting lock-tite on the base of the gas block where it contacts the barrel to ensure a good gas seal? I have seen it done for keys on bolt carriers and was thinking that maybe it would work here too. Sorry for so many questions but like I said, I have never done this before and want to make sure that I do it properly. If any other info is needed please let me know. I also want to say thanks in advance for anyone who can help me, it is greatly appreciated. -gmanindahood. |
| I'm not sure. It doesn't have any manufacturer's markings and I honestly cannot remember what the seller said. It seems to be of pretty good quality as it is heavy aluminum. It has four rails and round & oval vent holes between the rails. It isn't t-marked. I don't know if this description will help you or not but I sent it because the handguard looks like others I have seen by various manufacturers. It did come with a barrel nut. Unfortunately I do not know how to post pics on this site or I would have sent them. |
