Its time for me to get an AR, I've looked a little, but don't really know what I "need" or should get for the first purchase. My local dealer suggested RRA, and another friend suggested the RRA Entry Tactical. Seems to have a few "extras" that are common add-ons but is fairly 'basic' with out a lot of "stuff" all over it that I might not need/want initially. But at the same time I believe it has the shorter fore grip and such, a shorter sight radius. I like the a2/a4 standards but I can see the removable carry handle/rail as a benefit for optics. I'm in no way drinking any kool-aid for any brand, all new, fresh here. I'm open to options. Thanks Forgive me if I beat the dead horse again, sorry I joined up with the 1911 forum in mind mostly. |

RRA is good but I won't suggest a brand to buy. I always tell people to get a flattop. If you're into A2's right now you can put a removeable carry handle on it. Next year when you're in to ACOG's you can take the handle off and slap on the scope. With a flattop you don't limit yourself. |
+1 I agree with that! You can't go wrong with any of the venders here. Just check them all out yourself. Check the Equipment Exchange frequently and ask the venders plenty of questions. See who likes to help you and go with them. |

It depends on how much you want to spend, but there's nothing wrong with going with one of the piston AR's as a first either. Your going to have to learn either system and how to maintain it if your completely new to it either way and it's a damn fine choice. I can honestly say after years of DI AR's I wouldn't look to buy a DI these days unless I just couldn't afford the piston option and needed the rifle bad enough. I suggest reading up on all the available threads on the subject, plus the websites of the builders and ask questions about what you still wonder about. POF LWRC soon to have theirs out, LMT LWRC Youtube |
| I agree with building your own. My first is a Bushy M4 type, but the more you learn about them, the more you will want to customize it and add stuff. That being said, I have never had any issues with that rifle. It has performed flawlessly from day one. As long as you get a flat top upper, you should be good. |
Thanks for the links and information. More to think about, I'd put those in the back of my mind as they seemed more expensive before I really started looking. I'm semi-following a friends build right now, I'll check up and see how thats going too. Building doesn't scare me, if the price is right going that route, I may do that too. Keep the thoughts/comments coming. I'll try to soak it all in. |
