I'v been looking and searching the web for a chart that shows the AR compared with other weapons for rate of fire.  I was looking for a chart that dated back atleast WWII weapons to modern.  If anyone has info link etc.  Please post a reply.  Thanks guys.

I always find it strange that the ROF for the m16 is listed as being between 750-900 rounds per minute. It seems like every other weapon has a much smaller range.

Here is a great website to look for those figures.

The M-16 specs were widened a bit when the change was made from the original IMR powder used in the early rifles to the ball powder used since 66-67.   The AR gas system is sensitive to port pressure changes caused by different burn rates of powder as higher port pressures result in higher cyclic rates. Consequently it was much more expedient to expand the cyclic rate spec than it was to redesign/modify the gas system to operate with the new powder or to give it an adjustable gas port like the FAL.

So the wide range in the cyclic rate specs is not an artifact of the weapon but rather of the ammuniiton used in it.
