I stopped by the local BRD Support Center/Store and saw that they had a 20" Colt Match Target A2.  I field stripped it and found it to be in good condition and the outside finish was nice.  All the salesman could say was that it was shot, but not much.  It was bought from a local that no longer wanted it.  The price that was on it was $1450 and I thought that to be steep.  The salesman stated that he could give it to me for $1250 plus tax.  I called Colt and ran the serial number that starts with "CST...".  The lady said it was mfg. in 1998.  What should I offer them for this rifle?  Used and 9 years old.

Also, I don't know much spec. info on these.   I am in the market for a 20" and this one may be it.  Thanks for all info!

Yeah, it's still high.  This place isn't known for having the lowest prices.

yes it should have a 1/7barrel if it's all original.

1998 uh? so it doesn't even have the bayo lug and the FH....

if so 1450$ is way to much for a postban used colt

I don't remember if it had the bayo lug, but it did however have a std. birdcage flashhider.

Way too high in my opinion.

I would maybe counter offer 950 at best.

If you shop around you can find a 6700 for around 950-1100.

Unless it came with some rails and/or a nice set of glass, I wouldn't pay more than $850 for it, at most.

Yeah, I know it's too high, but I didn't know what to offer him.  I was thinking $900.  I'm pretty sure it's a 6601.  BUT, if it's made in 1998 I too wonder why it has a threaded flash supressor on it unless the original owner had it installed.

I bought a used Colt Match Target A2 20" 6700 about 2 or 3 years ago for $950, and I ended up trading it for a Bushmaster 20" A3.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Colt, but I love my Bushmasters.

$1450 is a ridiculous price, and anything over $950 is ripping you off.

unless it's pinned/welded on and not threaded or some other cobble job

True.  I need to go back and talk to him again, this time paying a bit more attention to some things on the gun itself.

I can get a new RRA 20" for about $900, so I'm having a hard time seeing that even $900 for this Colt is worth it when I can get a new rifle.  Unless someone chimes in stating that Colt is better b/c of this and that bla bla bla with REAL factual details.  Thanks for the thoughts thus far.

if it as a real fh maybe it's a Sporter Match HBar and not a Match Target HBar

Maybe.  It's only marked "Match Target" on the side along with the #'s.  I wish I had some of you Colt experts in the area that could come by and see it.  The only problem with that is some of you would buy it right out from under my nose.

I wouldn't worry about that when you can get a new 6920 on the EE around 1350

A CST serial number is a postban MT6551.

It should have a government profile barrel.  No bayo lug or flash hider.

Being it was made in 1998, it is probably not drilled for a pushpin which is undersirable.

It is worth $800 at the most.

I wouldnt go over $700 myself.  You would probably want to get that HBRA turned down, reparkerized and threaded if you bought it.

I paid about $750.00 for my MT LW and my wife paid about $800.00 for her MT HBAR.

It doesnt' have an HBAR barrel if the gun has its original barrel.

Alright.  I was a little turned off, but now it's setting in deeper.  I don't think it's worth the money they're asking.  After talking to a co-worker who shops there often, he stated that the owner of the shop won't dip low enough for the purchase to be worth my time.  I'll hold out and go new if I can't find something decent in the EE.

While I've got you guys...  If you were purchasing or building a 20" A2, would there be much reason why RRA or Bushy wouldn't be a good choice for me?
