I built my first one in 1985.  GI barrel and internals, EA lower (I think), can't remember who made the upper...  Nice A1 configuration rifle.  Had to "dispose" of it late in 1987 because 1) I'd used all GI internals, including selector, trigger, hammer, carrier, etc. and 2) I was shipping out overseas and didn't have time to do anything else with it.

If I'd been smart, I'd have spent about $500 (including tax) and had it modified to select fire (remember WHEN I'm talking about here) and had it stored while I was overseas.  Too bad I wasn't smart.  That was one sweet shooting rifle!

Mid-life crisis?

I guess I should have made it clear - I bought it in 1993 - it was an 18th birthday present of sorts.

Originally, I planned to shoot service rifle mathces with it - but I later learned that (back then) flat-top receivers were verboten.  It did shoot me some nice master / high master scores in a few local high power matches in Missouri.

I have had to replace the bolt carrier - but other than that it has been a good rifle.

To give a better perspective of how much time has passed - I actually brought that very rifle to my high school to shoot on our range with a .22 LR "subcaliber" device - in Illinois of all places!

Eagle Arms EA15 (A2) purchased shortly after ban in 1994.  I bought it because it looked just like the one I got in basic training in 1992, it was banned, and credit cards are easily obtained by poor college kids who don't have any money.    Go Penn State $$$$

Oops, I mean, Go Penn State!!!!!

Same here.  But I had very little occasion to use it what with my 90mm main gun, cupola mounted .50 cal, and a .30 co-axial mount on my M-48 at Cu Chi in '68/'69.  Oh yeah, my uncle also let me borrow a 1911 45 too.

The Sporter II was the first of the so called green label Colts.  "Transitional Models" typically refer to Colts that were made from the transition from green label to blue label colts. Sporter II's were made from 1984 to 1986 I thnk

Colt M16A1.  It was loned to me by Prime Minister Ehud Barak.  He then gave me a brand new Colt M4 after basic, which he had bought from Uncle Sam.

The first one I bought on my own dime was a Bushy XM-15.
