I can get the stock on the extension tube and semi tightened down, but there is a lot of play between the stock and the lower reciever. I cant screw the stock screw in all the way because of this red crap that is caked on there. Does the red stuff have a purpose or should I remove it all?

Any suggestions is appreciated.

It's thread locker so the screw doesn't back itself out. If the screwdriver is slipping out before getting tight enough, you're likely using the wrong screwdriver. It is a craftsman, or a gunsmithing screwdriver?

you can always scrape the stuff out (as long as you don't goof up the threads, and once the screw is in, eith don't worry about it, or put some liquid locktite on before screwing it in.

The red stuff is there for a purpose - to keep the screw in place LEAVE IT ALONE.

If you're installing an A2 stock did you remember to use the spacer between the stock and the receiver extension.

Make sure you are using the receiver extension for a fixed stock and it's screwed in all the way to the proper torque.

When all else fails Read The Freaking Manual (chapter 3):

Thanks the for advice. I only have a craftsman. I just removed most of the thread locker and lube the threads down with CLP and worked it in slowly and steadily. If it losens in the future i'll just loctite it.
