Hello all,

I have a few questions regarding the Timney drop-in trigger. First off, can these triggers be used for a tactical response rifle, or are they designed specifically for target or hunting applications. Second, if they can be used for a tactical rifle, which would you recommend the Three pound or the four pound pre-set. Lastly, have there been problems with these triggers and would you recommend them, and where can they be purchased.

Thanks in advance.

i love mine, but i wouldnt put my life in its hands. they have had a hand full of problems, doubleing, not reseting the disconnector, coming loose. ive got one of the first gens which was fine, and i had to send one first gen back for a replacement, and that one seems to be great.

Other than a designated sniper rifle, I don't see any department approving these triggers for duty use.  I would not approve them with my department.  Stock trigger for everyone!

The break is so light, and so clean, that I increased the trigger spring on mine to increase the pull.  I know that is blasphemy to some people.....

I own 2 of the new CMC triggers and they have functioned great. One is a 3.5 LB(which i suspect is lighter) and the other 4.5 LB. They are way better than stock triggers. The 3.5 LB takes getting used to, as i have unintentionally double tapped a few times at the range.  I would use either of mine for serious use. The CMC 4.5 LB is used by lots of MIL and LE guys. The 4.5 LB is very nice and "safer". If you're wanting it to bump, the 3.5LB makes it easier;although the 4.5 works too.

I have shot the Timney Trigger and although it's a little nicer, I don't like the set screw design. The CMC is plenty nice and dependable too.

This has been discussed just about a week and a half ago.  Timney has stopped production.

Another reason to go with a CMC!

Non-sequitur, BUT...

Would one of these be practical as a drop-in for a kit-build Masada?  (I'm thinking something ala 18"/20" Krieger in 5.56)

Hello all,

This is my first post and will be the first to say that I am not especially knowledgeable on the AR.....but do have some info on these triggers.

About 2 weeks ago I called Timney Mfg and talked with John about these triggers. He told me that they are still in production and readily available. I could have placed my order with him at that time and had about a 4 week wait on delivery (other orders ahead of me), but he refered me to Dynamic Armament, saying that they had just picked up 35 of them and would have them in stock. Placed my order (for the 3 lb unit) that day and recieved it 4 days later.

He stressed that if you use the blue Lock Tite on the screws that you will have no porblems with this trigger. Easy install and so far (750 rounds fired) no problems of any kind. Great trigger, it really makes shooting small groups easy!

Just my $.02

Timney triggers are still in production. They have added additional capacity to keep up with the huge demand.  They did experience some initial issues with disconnector engagement and resultant doubling. They made a small geometry change and solved that problem. The CMC triggers had a similar problem when they were first out in the market. Similarly, they also fixed their problem and moved on.

The Timney triggers are somewhat crisper than the CMC, but both work well. I would not use the 3-3.5lb Timney for a general duty weapon, but for a tac-response rifle, with department approval, it would work very well. The 4-4.5lb units are not available in any quantity as yet but will be soon, and they will be good for more general duty. There is supposed to be a 5.6-6lb version in the works as well, which should be great for entry weapons.

The nice thing about the Timneys is that they have full sear engagement and perfect sear to trigger geometry. So they are crisp and clean regardless of weight. (No stacking)  The set screws, when properly installed, lock the entire mechanism solidly into position, which takes all variability out of the take up and release. Make sure to use a little locktite on the screws and let it set up overnight and it could be the best single stage you have ever used.

We have lots of 3# in stock and more 4's are on order.
