Do most of the red dot open sight optics require a riser rail? If not...which ones dont?

EOTech and Aimpoint don't reqiire risers. Some others don't, but I stick with these because of durability.

Unless you have flip up front sight it's gonna get in the way. For example, if you have a flat top & use an Aimpoint with its mount, your front sight will be seen through the lower portion of the optic. Same with an Eotech or Trijicon's Reflex or ACOG. You want it this way though so they can co-witness.

Kinda makes you wonder how all those thousands of combat troops in Iraq get by without a riser???

You could be this guy...

::shrug::  you decide whether it's worthwile.  My vote is no, but FWIW there're guys putting their ACOGs on DCH's, too.

I'm guessing that tri-rail brings the ACOG to the same height as if it were attached to a carry handle.  Some guys prefer ACOG's this way as it gives them a clear sight picture and no blurriness from the FSB on 3X or 4X

When I've used the ACOG or CCO on the range I havnt found the front sight post to be intrusive.  Because I want an EOTECH and havnt used one before I have worried about it.  No one else seems to think it a prob so wth.

Ive got my 552 on a YHM EOTech riser. I dont care to cowitness. I like my reticle above the front sight.

Kinda why I prefer single rail GB and mount a FFS when I build an AR. IMHO

YMMV
