Ok, seeing as I live in New York state, (not New York City) and they have their own High Cap Ban I can only own pre ban mags. But how do I know for sure they are pre-ban? I see people selling so-called pre ban mags all the time but are there markings I can use to make sure I'm not taken for a sucker? |

I live in ny too. The word from various dealers is that a pre-ban mag does not have the date of manufacture stamped on it. The date should be after the ban. However i've heard some word that some manufacturers stopped stamping dates after the sunset of the ban, but don't really know. If you have a pre-ban rifle supposeadly none of this is an issue. paying $20 for a magazine makes me feel like a sucker pre-ban or no crazy, but thats the price you pay to live in NY |
| Up here in Mass any unmarked mag or mag with no date code is considered pre-ban.Ive seen the brit gray and C products mags up here in shops for sale.I know for $1 more a mag from 44mag.com you can order a mag parts kit wich is basically an un assembled mag and is perfectly legal because un-assembled is considered replacement parts. |

After the federal ban went into effect on Sept 13, 1994, the ATF required date markings and the following on each mag""Restricted Military/Gov't/Law Enforcement/Export Use Only". Most manufacturers removed the restrictions markings after Sept 13, 2004, but the date marks were kept. I believe the only magazine brand that used date markings on the mags before the ban was Center Industries out of Kansas. Today's government contract mags use the month and year. Cproducts does not use a date stamp. Your best bet to determine preban would be to buy new in wrapper contract magazines. The month and year would be printed on the bag as well as the manufacturer. Some brands that were made mostly before the ban were AdventureLine, Parsons Precision, and many LaBelle. And you can also look for contract mags with black followers. I believe by the ban date, all contractors used green followers. Generally, no marking on the mag body will cover you as preban, just be aware that new postban labels like Cproducts and perhaps a few other do not put the date on the body. |
Cproducts is a new start-up company making gov't quality magazines. They do not date their mag bodies. Since they are a known post ban entity, their complete magazines would not satisfy the preban requirement. |
Isn't the floorplate the only identifying feature on the C-products mags? I have a ten round that's not marked (other than the floor plate). Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm kinda curious about the 20 and 30 round mags. |
Here's some things you could say to them 1. Because I can 2. Why do you need a car that goes over 55 mph? 3. Since when did necessity justify a reason for ownership? 4. The government has them, why shouldn't I? 5. Zombies |
pre-ban rifle= still needs pre-ban mags post-ban rifle=you can shoot w/pre-ban mags whether the rifle is pre/post-ban has no influence on what type of mags you can use in it. Us trapped in a KOMMIE-state have to use pre-bans if we want hi-caps |

I bought a bunch of pre-ban 30's, all date-stamped early 90's. These were all Okay and Center Ind. I don't really care for the high-caps..... My favorite mags are Colt USGI 20's with the alloy followers. Easier to load, easier to change, but even those are high-caps here in Schumervillehigh-caps, Beware of the few that want to gouge those behind-the-lines. Be patient and watch the EE. Good pre-ban mags come up in there all the time. |
Just show them news clippings of gang-related home invasions / rapes / murders involving a dozen or more gang members, and explain that you don't have a fighting chance with ten rounds. I've heard these happening with as many as 30 gang members in my state - justifying not only 30 round magazines, but plenty of Beta C mags too. |
Maybe buy the old 20rd Colt mags with metal followers and the magazine body marked with the UI on the front of the magazine. Think they stopped marking the magazine bodies with UI in the 1970s. |
I don't know what your ban is like, but I can tell you that modern day Cproducts magazines were not made prior to Sept. 13, 1994.. AHH MASS LAW:“Large capacity feeding device”, (i) a fixed or detachable magazine, box, drum, feed strip or similar device capable of accepting, or that can be readily converted to accept, more than ten rounds of ammunition or more than five shotgun shells; or (ii) a large capacity ammunition feeding device as defined in the federal Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, 18 U.S.C. section 921(a)(31) as appearing in such section on September 13, 1994. The term “large capacity feeding device” shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with,.22 caliber ammunition. Sooo... If you are purchasing new Cproducts 30 round magazines and New Thermolds, you are putting yourself in jeopardy..Beware.. |
| Thanks Kingc..up here there are licencse classes..I have a ClassA for large capacity weapons and feeding devices, class B is for high capacity rifles and low cap handguns and no concealled carry the A alows concealed carry as well and covers rifles, pistols and shotguns low cap or high cap.And every shop around here has em and sells them of course you have to have the right license class to purchase. |
| when i first got me ar i was not to sure on the preban thing so i bought 6 30 rounders off the net.(cant rememeber where) well they have dates on them from 05 i need to find someone to buy or trade these for pre bans asap before i end my a** up in jail! any offers?? o and yea yea yea i know i should had checked the laws. im stupid i know. |
| I like 20 rounders as well. As someone stated in the above, get some 20 rounders on EE with the alloy follower (I think that the Colt "AR-15" and/or the Adventure Lines are the best). If you get the two aforementioned brands with the alloy follower, you know they are pre-ban...and damn good mags to boot! |
