You could purchase headspace gauges and check your head spacing once a year. But I think the average recreational shooter will never wear out a bolt.

- Extractor Spring / Insert

When you start to experience FTE’s.

- Bolt Carrier / Gas Key

Bolt carrier- Probably never. If you perform the gas ring check, and your gas rings fail. You replace them with a new set and it still fails the test, then chances are your carrier is worn past the limit. But again, you carrier should last you a life time.

Carrier key- If you experience short cycling and discover your gas tube is leaking do to wear, you might want to also check and possibly replace your carrier key.

- Barrel

The barrel might warrant replacement along with the bolt when head spacing fails, or when your groups open up and are no longer acceptable to you.

With full-auto verses semi-auto you might want to increase the frequency of your inspections.

I'd never seen the gas ring check before.  Thanks!
