Hello all. Due to the beautiful weather today, I decided to do a little target shooting
with some of my toys, and when it came time to start blasting with my AR, It started
choking big time. In other words, it had turned into a single shot. Please keep in
mind that this is my beater AR and it only gets cleaned about every , well never
mind. I have been shooting a mixture of my reloads with data 68 powder, IMR 4895 and Winchester 748. The 4895 and 748 was just to use up what was left in the can.
When I took it apart at the range, the carbon buildup on the bolt was insane. Was the build up due to the mixing of powders, and the lubrication from it's last cleaning.
( which I think was only around 350 rounds ago. ) For what it's worth, the rifle had new
gas rings installed about 800 rounds ago along with a new gas tube.  So my question is, how often due you lube your AR's, and how much do you use.

Most of my reloads were loaded with Data 68 powder at 23.7 grains, with a 55 grain FMJ bullet.
After the rifle started to choke, I threw some Guat down the pipe just for the heck of it
and experienced zero problems. Do you think my reloads were loaded too light, and
with having a dirty rifle, that this is what caused my AR to choke?

Start with a clean & properly lubed rifle.
