Currently I have a DPMS with just plain joe handguards. What I am looking to do is put a free float rail system on it, or maybe not rail system just a free float tube. Can someone tell me how to do this?

That will vary widely depending on which unit you get.  Some will clamp around the barrel nut, some will require removal of the FSB and barrel nut.
