Although I was originally looking for a 16" barrel I ended up getting the Bushmaster 11.5" Bbl. Carbine W. 5.5" Suppressor in A3 Now what shall I add to it ? Any pros or cons to this particular model? http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q185/chasesigi/100_5168.jpg |
Yep. Chase, if it is 11.5", then the picture is the wrong one because that is a 16" barrel in the photo. |
|
OK now I am wondering if this is the 14.5" Barrel and not the 11.5" barrel ... How can I tell ? It says XM15 - ES2 on the Rifle... M4A3 is handwritten on the case. The more I look at it and compare it to the catalog it looks like the 14.5" barrel. Can anyone shed some light for this newbie ? |

That pic looks like a regular A2 flash hider on your barrel there. That would probably make it a 16". If you had a pinned on Phantom, or a extended A2 (don't think Bushy does the extended A2 anyway) you may have a 14.5". Be happy with the 16". It will serve you well. By the way, where in NC is this rifle? My collection is in the triad area. edit: I have got to take some typing lessons. |

Congradulations on your new AR and welcome to the black rifle club. What you have is a full 16" barrel with A2 flashider. Its a good thing too, though. This rifle will be much more accurate than the 11.5 would have been and at the same overall barrel length.hathttp://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=280593 WELCOME BROTHER |

That is definately a 16" barrel model with the M4 profile cut. The 16" length is simply to stay on the legal side of things. Before you shoot it, completely clean & lube the rifle. New guns usually come coated in cosmoline which will more than likely cause malfunctions in your AR15. You don't wan't that on your first trip, trust me. ![]() ETA, also heres a useful link on properly sighting in your iron sights Zeroing Methods |

Hey Chase, If you haven't been yet, jump over to the Hometown Forums for the Carolinas. Bunch of good people over there that will help you with that rifles break-in period... |

Patrolman's Carbine was my first as well. Its the hot shit for n00bs. Very good choice. Not having a permanently attached flash hider is a good thing IMHO. The one you got is a much better choice than the one you thought you had. Spend some time on here and learn as much as you can, and keep us updated on your progress! These rifles are great fun, and you probably just have the first of many. |

chasesigi, after you spend a little time with us here at AR15.com, you will be VERY glad you got the 16"! You will learn that you get better velocity and longer fragmentation range from your ammo and if you ever decide to sell it or trade it, you acctually have some resale value! Now you need: A good sling Ammo Extra mags good quality cleaning gear! (ie: bore guide, one piece coated guide rod, ect....) Range time. Spend some quality time with your new carbine and learn to use it as is. In the fall you can start looking into optics, handguards and a billion little things to trick it out. But right now the most important thing you can do is learn to shoot it stock. Until you really learn how to operate it properly, any additional gear you buy will be more for decoration than utility. Congratulations and welcome to the world of the EBR. ![]() www.talonarms.com |

Talon is Right. The 16 is far superior to the 11.5/5.5 set up. There is no point in losing velocity if you don't have a shorter more maneuverable rifle. Spend some time getting to know your new best friend both inside and out. Spend lots of time at the range with some extra mags and ammo and then once you are used to using the irons then you can look into optics like an aimpoint, eotech, elcan, acog, or whatever floats your boat. As for a basic sling right now a simple three point will do. Eagle industries makes one called the TAS-3 its both simple and effective. Go ahead and pick up some extra mags from one of the dealers on the board. I say buy as many as you can afford to but 5-6 would do. This would allow you to spend more time shooting and less time loading. And above all have fun! ETA: hey Talon do you have a retail location? |
