Anyone having problems with mounting barrels on Vltor Mur. I have heard there can be some issues with the barrels not mating correctly with the receiver. Has anyone experienced this problem and if so how can it be corrected.

No, I've never heard of any problems with a Vltor MUR.  Your thread title makes it sound like you are having a problem with one, but your post says you have heard about problems.  Its a little confusing.

+1 to what Stickman said on both issues.

I have not.

The only problems I've heard of with the MUR involve certain railed forends that need some filing to mate them to the larger MUR, such as the locking ring on the Larue or the indexing tabs on the Troy.

I haven't heard of any problems between the MUR and any barrels.

What I want to know is where you heard these reports?  One incident?  Or multiples?  Link?  BS Gunshop hearsay?

I had to modify my Troy rail as described above, but I haven't had any problems with it at all.

OK guys sorry for the topic heading. New to this forum and not quite familiar with all the proper ways to post. Anyways, I was told over e-mail by one of the sites well respected industry partners that he has had to do extensive reshaping of feed ramps on some barrels so that they will properly mate with the MUR uppers. That is why I posted this topic to see if anyone else if having this same problem. The barrel I am going to use is a 16" Douglas bull barrel with M4 feed ramps. He still thinks he will have to do some work on the barrel so it will mate properly. I hope this clears up some of the questions.

I have one that is not aligned perfectly but still functions without a hitch. There's gotta be a more valid reason for WES to say something's not right? Why don't you ask him to express his opinion on this thread instead? I've heard one where the M4 cuts on the MUR was a little on the steep side and caused some issues...and VLTOR admitted to the fact that some were like that but they will of course work with you to fix the problem.

Wes has not seen my barrel. He just mentioned that it could possibly be a problem and I was just curious. I do not know if he is right or wrong. I do know that he builds exceptional rifles and that is why I contacted him about building my new upper. Just curious if this was a known problem or just something he has experienced with 1 or 2 uppers and was just letting me know it may be an issue before starting the build. Thanks for the responses.

I haven't seen any problems with them, and I've used more than a few. I'm rebarreling a buddies MUR right now (as in, he just dropped it off less than 10 minutes ago), and I just tried a Douglas, Colt, BCM, 2 Rocks, and an older LMT barrel on it and the ramps all aligned as they should. They line up just fine. FWIW, it fed with a 9.75" barrel w/ an LMT M4 extension for 3500 rounds prior.

The only problem that I have with them is that they're hard to get at times. The MUR is easily my favorite upper that's commercially available.

Either that, or people are completely sick of internet bullshit.

Thanks for adding to it.
