If you like to get your barrel really hot, then buy one.

I bought a 9mm and a .223 one.  Never used them.  Not sure I will but at least I'll have them should another ban ever materialize.

I figured that for sure!

FYI, IF the mag cap ban were to pass, you wouldn't be able to transfer ownership of it (you legally wouldn't be able to sell it)

Would it be rcomended to pick one up or not realy worth it?

IMO, the money'd be better spent on USGI mags

I can't imagine them being very useful unless you owned an M16...and then it'd only be good for cooking barrels.

I have a .223 one and a 9mm one.
I use the 9mm one.
I used the .223 one once.
I obviously thought they were worth buying mainly just because I got some satisfaction in knowing that some liberal would piss his pants if he knew about it.

I feel like this is the last hurrah for stuff like this and am getting while the getting is good.

Excelent reason for buying one!

You may find other reasons to use though. We are seeing them quite a bit in 3 gun competition in the open division. Also, they are great for laying down suppressing fire when a true LMG is not available.

God forbid "they" do pass a ban, but it will double in value overnight.

Here is a good look at one from the back. This is in one of our full auto SDI Commandos. They will drain a Beta Mag without so much as hickup.

I've used mine in competition up here. Every once in a while, there is a stage that will call for 50-80 rounds at once. This way, I don't have to waste time or shift positions (if prone) doing mag changes.

For semi-automatic and not for law enforcement, military, or even competition?  No thanks.  Too bulky and encumbers the balance of your rifle.

Also, with the cost of ammo these days I'm going for long range accuracy rather than blasting.

I don't know how common plinking at junk is anymore with all the PC and environmental stuff going on, but......... I used to live in a small town about 70 miles from here in rural Nevada. Outside of town is a designated shooting area where a bunch of losers dump junk. The actual dump is closer, but they obviously don't understand that.
So, I still drive out there and shoot up all this junk. Appliances, cars, boats, trash, microwaves, computers, TVs etc. Amazingly, a lot of this stuff is simply shot into dust over time. There was a boat there that just disintegrated over a year or two of people shooting it.
When shooting there, I walk around with a beta mag shooting targets of opportunity. I don't have to walk back to the truck very often.

Does it hurt to keep them loaded for long periods?
5/11/2007 12:56:03 PM EDT
[#13]
You can keep them loaded without any harm and to me this is the best SHTF mag to own.  You put that in the rifle and then carry what else you can.  Hope that never happens but it would sure make a difference in not having to do all those mag changes.

Plus I don't see a ban passing that prohibits selling grandfathered stuff if it does than so be, I'll have mine even if you don't.

Just don't drop them. Esp if they are loadded to cap.

Great 3 gun mag, but not as sturdy as USGI mags.

In the latest issue of SGN, there is an  excellent article about all drum type magazines and how bad they are. As an aside, my  experience has been somewhat positive but the C-mag does need to be handled with care and needs to be dry lubed frequently. I'd stick with GI 30rnders with Mag pull followers and upgraded springs.
