Anyone using and liking the Redi-Mag system?  I'm thinking of getting one for a duty rifle, but wondering about the added weight, or is it really a problem?

Yes, I used the search feature and found nothing...

I've used one for nearly 20 years and really like them. I don't notice the extra weight (the unit doesn't weigh much) but the extra bulk is there. But that is a minor factor IMO compared to the ease & accessibilty of a fresh mag. Mag chinchs are ok by=ut you have 2 mags stuck together & more bulky than the Redi-mag unit. I think it boils down to familiarity & personal preference.

Yes that is true. It seams like a lot of people don't like the Redi. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. It adds almost no extra weight or bulk. The only thing I would recommend is to get the extended bolt release other wise it's not that efficient hitting the release with the Redi in place.

I keep one in my bag for 3-Gun matches, even though I shoot in the Open division.  The reason, is sometimes it just works better than reloading from the belt and the occasional time when I can throw a POS 40 round mag I have and use it as a mono-pod.

It does add an odd amount weight to the rifle.  Not in actual weight, but the bulk is there and you feel the difference.  Reloads are super fast though and others have said an extended bolt release is really not a bad idea.

I bought one (version 2 with bolt catch extension.)  Many hate, but I have it on my duty carbine.  One plus in my monopod is now a bipod, it adds weight (my M4 is now 9 pounds with larue rail, aimpoint/larue mount, surefire, tango down, and readi mag. )  It takes up the space I was going to have engraved on the mag well.  Admin reloads SUCK, but are necessary during my qual course (not mine as in I wrote it, but mine as in I gotta shoot it), and as such I have to suck it up and do alot more.  "make safe/make ready" than I should have to think about.  If you time it wrong you have to reload at the wrong times, meaing you are not completing the course of fire that you are being tested on.

More realistic qual course is not going to happen.  Testing is not training, it is testing, and as such the course has to be followed to the letter; so fudging the qual course is not going to happen.  I really dislike my ready make when I have to qual, but it is only twice a year... I can live with it.

Works well.....until you have to clear a double feed jam during a shootout.
