| Okay... I'll show a little ignorance here. Can someone explain what it means to be a mid-length?? I know there are the rifles, and carbines, but I just never really understod what being a midlength is?? |

The midlength carbine are about (but not exactly) 2 inches longer handguard and gas tube also the front sight base and gas port are also about 2 inches more forward than the carbine gas system. Handguard length comparison: Carbine - 7" Midlength - 9" Rifle - 12" The sight radius of the midlength is about approx. 2" longer than the carbine gas system. Midlength's action are a little smoother than the carbine. The midlength are available in different barrel lengths, 14.5", 16" and 18", also Government (thin contour), medium contour and heavy barrel thickness under the handguards. |

I think others have adequately answered the question, but just want to throw in my two cents. I've been saying how I'm partial to the carbine which is true but it is more accurate for me, it is the 16 inch barrel with the midlength handguards (and hence, the other things that were mentioned). Since my shooting rather depends on how I can handle the combat sling, I need that extra length on the handguard but not all the length on the full size. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ("Look at all this metal and it is all ours!"--mountain thief "Well, here's another two inches to add to your collection."--woman prime minister stabbing him in the back, (w,stte), Dr. Who "The Creature in the Pit") |
