I have two Vortex flash suppressors on other weapons, and I really like them. I've never had a problem with them, and basically the reason I'd be going to a phantom is for the price. They are cheaper obviously, so will I ultimately be disappointed? This could be a complete myth, and I believe it is, but does the vortex flash suppressor have any effect on accuracy? (God I feel like a newb again). Are there any advantages that the Phantom has over the Vortex that I may be overlooking, or any advantages that the phantom has over the vortex? This setup will eventually be my duty carbine, so please keep that in mind as well. Thanks Scott |
The Fork type Phantom 4 slot doesnt need index. I did use a crush washer, I wonder now if the crush washer is needed on the Older model indexing my last Phantom I bought was a pain |
I have a 4 slot type with the Teeth on my Bushy/LMT M4 and on my LMT Defender 2000 M4 a 5C1 I dont like the Teeth plus it Bangs my leg when useing a single point sling all will do this but Teeth dont help |

Flash Hider Tests: silencertests.com/flash.htm Vortex is the winner by far... you have to click on the photo to even see it. |
I will most likely stick with the vortex, I love the way they look, and I'm not too terribly worried about it getting caught up in the wild brush of America Since I have 2 other AR's with vortex FH's, the tuning fork noise doens't bother me at all. I think it complements the sproing noise just beautifully for a marvelous symphony of 5.56 bliss. But then again, a 5C1 would be a nice change of pace... ugh

I've been eyeing a Vortex but now you have me wondering. What exaxtly is this "blossoming" you speak of? Is it common? Also what's the ping noise? |
Blossoming is when the tines start to "peel back", like a banana (but obviously not that extreme). I guess you could say they just start to seperate. I think this was a problem on older vortex models. I've NEVER heard of the newer generation models doing it, only the older ones, and the knock offs. Buy from a reputable dealer, and ensure you get a Smith Enterprises G6A2 and you will not have this problem. |
Within the first thousand rounds I BELIEVE. I've never personally seen it happen, and I know lots of guys with vortex's. And as I stated before, if you buy a genuine smith G6A2, you don't have to worry about it anyways. |

Check your barrel before ordering! I just ordered a Vortex and the skirt would not fit over my standard RRA barrel. There was a 1/8" gap where the crown should meet the Vortex. I called Smith and the said they had a special Vortex to fit RRA barrels. I believe the skit ID is .730" on the standard, and .750" for the RRA. I sent it back and am waiting for the new one. |
whats the Vortex going on ? 20 or a 14.5 Barrel |
I'm sorry but what clearance are you talking about? The 3/8" clearance you're referring to. |
FMJ, its going on a 14.5 and will be permed |
Hmmm. The way it looks to me the Phantom has less signature than the Vortex. |
