| Ok I'll give you the run down. I was at the range today for Dept Qual's, Our rifle course is 50 rounds. The rifles was dead on from the 100 yard line all the way up to the 25 yard line. About half way threw the course of fire (25 yrds) something didnt sound right. I put my safty on and took a look at the rifle. I noticed the bolt was not fully engaged into the lug's. I pulled the charging handly to clear the round which was ejected. This is were my problems started. After clearing the round, I charged the rifle to preform a safty check, the bolt was released and almost closed fully, stopping in the same place as before, only this time the bolt would not release. After several times of tring to pull the bolt back, it finaly released. This happened several more time. Everything appears to be ok, the extractor has good tension, and with the bolt removed the BCG had no problem sliding in and out. The rifle was oiled and was just cleaned. The only thing different was the locking lugs look a little dirty. Anyone ever had this problem? |
That has to be it. There is a primer or a piece of brass somewhere wedged under something. Look in the front of the track your cam pin rides in on the bolt carrier. Look in the lower...with a flashlight. Then look in the barrel extension and clean it with a brush. Then clean and lube it well with CLP. In theory, your gas tube could be bent...but I doubt it. You can easily check by dropping just the carrier down into the upper while it is heald at a 45 deg angle...if it goes all the way fwd, you are good. If it won't go all the way in...gas tube problem. |
| funny you guys should say that, My best guess was something (a primer) stuck somewhere. I think we got a bad batch of ammo, buddy was shooting with me the other day when his trigger got stuck , primer cap...... oh well the Dept just bought bout 20,000 rounds. And for above yes it is my Dept issued COLT, I have a bushmaster, and a RRA. Couldnt pass up the colt , I mean come on the selector goes all the way to the rear who would not take it, thanks guys for the info keep it comming. P.S. no seeing a primer cap so far the whole thing is apart in CLP right now. |
| You really have to look hard if it is only a part of a primer... Use a surefire and look at every bearing surface. Debris can get smashed down in there. I had a part of a primer...the anvil? get caught up in my AK trigger and it was not totally failing but was feeling funny...took forever to see what it was. I wonder what happened to the actual primer...it must have fallen out somehow. |

One thing I forgot...take a GOOD look at the chamber and throat. You might have had a neck seperation on the case and it could still be in the barrel... Also make sure you didn't get a squib that is still in the bore just in front of the chamber. I saw a sig that had a squib go bang...fail to extract...tap...rack...attempt to fire but bullet was still in the barrel just fwd of the chamber and didn't let the gun go all the way into battery. |
| yeah that was my first thought BANG, I had the upper off the lower and made sure it was not a little suprise for me. Update... something has to be in there, if I take the BGC and push the bolt to the rear it and sling it forward it does not slide out like it normally does, more updates to come when I find this damn thing, I dont care if it takes all night , I can sleep with one of the children being sick lol |
