How bad does a standard FSB clutter the view throw a 1-4x variable power scope?  Or are flip up sights mandatory?

I have a Leupold CQ/T 1-3x, and on 3x the front sight base is a barely visible blur.  I don't even notice it.  On a higher magnification scope it would be completely invisible.  Front flip sight isn't really necessary in IMO.

REALLY, REALLY NOTICABLE.  On a 12" forearm with the Meopta you can even see the Troy flip down clear as day as if it were looking right at it on 1X.  Not blurry at all.  I would not want to use a true 1X minimum with a standard FSB but people do it with Aimpoints and absloute cowitness all the time.  At full magnification it is not a problem at all.  I would call it personal preference.  I am fine with Aimpoints and ACOGs with a standard FSB but not with 1-4X optics on the 1X setting.

I would be using a 9" FF rail and the optic would be a NF.  Seems to me that the less crap there is in the sight picture, the better; however, since I've NEVER seen shot a set-up like this I can't really comment on how distracting it would be.  But, I sure see a lot of this going on with military weapons in the pics that I see.

Thanks for the feedback, gents.

My build is gonna be a middy, so it won't be so "out there" as on your set up.

I've gotten some other feedback via IM wherein the user is running a standard FSB and a Short Dot.  The user cited that the FSB was not an issue at 1x.

Anyone else?

With a Short Dot on a BCM 14.5" with a standard FSB it doesn't bother me. It's clearly visible, but I shoot Aimpoints with LaRue BUIS and fixed FSB's so It never gets on my nerves or anything.

Through my ACOG I can just see a shadow or ghost image if you will from the FSB, its 4x so I cant speak for any other level.

Okay, so standard FSB's are a go then with variable and fixed power optics.  Good to hear.

Pics would be great for the thread if anyone has any.

It looks exactly like an Aimpoint or any other cowitnessed optic.  There is no blur or distortion to the front sight at 1X like there is at 4X.  Just imagine your scopes reticle there instead of an Aimpoint dot on the tip of the front sight post.

I think that flip up sights are required, so I installed GG&G flip up sights on all my guns.
However a lot of people feel that the front sight is not seen once you get
to about the 4x power setting or higher.
