So this isnt really a build question or one that particularly pertains to optics so I thought I would post it here as it gets the most traffic.

I am taking my ARMS #19 acog mount apart from my acog and one of the hex hed screws is totally stripped and has red locktite to boot.  I tried heating it up to a point but dont want to damage the acog in the process. How the hell do I get a tiny screw like that out of there without hurting the acog threads? The acog is sold to someone that Im waiting on payment so I need to not hurt the acog in any way.

Any help would be much appreciated as I had to walk away because of my temper

if I drill the head off will there be enough left sticking from the acog to grab with a wrench?

extractor:

drill appropriate sized hole with drill
use extractor to back the bolt out (preferably with a tap wrench holding the extractor)

if you can separate two pieces, just drill the head off and then use vice grips to take the remainder of the screw out.

Had the same thing happen to me. My Acog came with a screw mount and I was installing a QD mount. I tried pretty much everything that's been said here and nothing worked. I ended up drilling off the head of the screw to get the original mount off and then I just used the two other screws to mount the QD. Maybe I'll go back someday and try to get the rest of that screw out but it's held for me so far.

Red 5 is giving it to you!!  Seriously, that is what you should do.  Take your time with the drill bit and make sure you chase it straight.  Good luck!

+1

I drill out screws all the time in things a lot more expensive than an ACOG. I would not give up on the heat though. Once you drill off the screw head I would apply heat to the exposed screw shank, then try with the vice grips.

Drilling out screws and removing the shank can be tricky some times and almost an art.
