I use hollow points or any other expandable bullet that shoots accurately and reliably in my rifle, unless I am planning on keeping the pelt, then I use FMJ

I know this may seem like a heavy load for p-dogs, but it is very accurate (where I live, a 20 mph wind is a "light wind" so I prefer a heavier bullet).

I use a Hornady BTHP 75 gr. bullet w/ 23.5 gr. of Hodgon Varget behind it with Remington and/or LC brass.

If you are going for factory bought, blue box Black Hills 68 gr. HPBT DESTROYS the varmints and is only $21 for a box of 50.

The gun I use is an LMT 18" SS MRP... works well on both p-dogs and jack rabbits,

<EDIT>*This advice is for those with 1:7 barrels

I shoot fed 55 bthp but I got about 8000 rounds in trade so it's not because its the best for the job, but thats all I'm shooting until it runs out. It shoots about 1/2MOA from my gun.

All my buddies shoot Blackhills 50gr VMAX

must have pictures!

It is more challenging to sneak up and get within 12 gauge range, no choke. 22" barrell.

Oh yeah! Well, it is even more challenging to kill a p-dog a sling-shot.

OK, I killed a Ground hog in our garden once, by getting a running start from around from the front of the house and before it could get up to speed and hide in his hole I used a home made spear and stuck him to the ground.

Screamed like a little girl for half a minute. You know how a rabbitt can scream, ground hog sounds the same only louder.

Damn, your Navajo skillz are true. The only thing that can top a sling-shot kill is a spear kill.

55g FMJ will kill them well. If they piss me off I call in artillary with a 7mm STW in either 120 Ballistic tip at 3400FPS or 168 Berger at 3100FPS. That way after I exact revenge I don't have to worry about cleaning them.

My set up is a RRA 24" SS 1:12" twist. We shoot the 40 gr. V-Max with devastating and explosive results. We even sometimes step down to a 35 grainer.

I shoot 50 gr V-Max Blackhills in my New England single-shot. I used to shoot 45 gr JHP Winchesters 40 round bulk box. I shot a crow at about 85 yrds off and cut him in half, the half were 4 feet apart! It pretty deadly on buzzards too...

Now since I've gotten my AR I buy Blackhills 69 MHP, haven't gotten to shot them yet.

I use 55 gr Vmax.  Explosive and messy.   69MHP just drill holes in them.  Not recommended.  Dead just the same i guess, no drama, or trauma.  We had a bunch of ricochets from them also shooting on the flat land.   YMMV.

The 50 gr Barnes Varminator in the 22-250 is a poodle popper of the holly shit kind.  VERY messy.

Back when you could get it, I shot a buch of the prarie poodles w/ blue box black hills 55g soft points.  Very effective, satisfying thump and adequate expansion.  My personal preference however has always been the 50g nosler ballistic tips when shot out of bolt guns (either .223 or 22-250).  Any of the expanding bullets work well, altough out past 600yds or so, they tend to act more like fmjs.  There are few things funner than setting up on a poodle patch on a nice day with modest wind.  Having said that, it is alot more colorful after the first snow on a bright sunny day.
