I am looking at picking up a NIB Colt 6920. I have a line on a pretty good deal. It will be $1200 OTD. I have heard some negatives about current production Colt ARs. I have heard and been told there have been a lot of fit and finish issues. Can anyone confirm or deny this. I have heard of mis-matched uppers and lowers. I am not new to ARs but this will be my first AR and want to get a good one. Is the Colt worth the extra $$ over a RRA? Thanks in advance |
COLT's are great guns ! You can't go wrong with the 6920 LE !! |

Well there are several ways to look at this situation. First of all, if you are new to the AR world you might want to consider a Bushmaster or something. The ONLY reason I say this is because you will probably find yourself wanting to accessorize your new rifle. This may involve disassembly of various parts of the rifle, and will generally be a learning experience. I would rather learn on something less valuable in case something goes wrong. Otherwise the decision is up to you, and whether or not YOU personally feel that the differences are worth the extra money. Its been mentioned many times, but the differences go beyond the finish. Not all of the rifles are going to be perfect, and some might look downright bad. Look in to the other details though, and see if it adds up to the couple hundred dollars difference. I tend to say it costs less than a case of ammo, so is the difference worth more than 1,000 rounds of .223? I found my new Colt 6920 had some marks on it here and there, it was by no means an absolutely perfect example. On the other hand I could have done much worse. Once I got it home and started taking pictures of it to brag on the board.... the details start becoming more apparent. Now that those little nicks and stuff have been touched up with a paint pen, it means much less to me than it did when I got it. I have what I set my heart on, and am satisfied with it. Just look at the rifle you are going to buy carefully before you purchase it, and make sure its acceptable. You can always say no, or ask to see another. I gotta admit its hard to get the 6920 out of your system. Its an extremely virulent strain of BRD. You show signs of having it, and probably will have a full blown case of 6920 before long. |
The rifle is not coming from VA. I am just north of you in Fredericksburg. My dealer does transfer for me for $15 I have great out of state colt dealer for pistols and rifles who take CC no surcharge and is priced under everyone else I have ever found. h I can get a Bushy for about $850 |
| Picked up a 6920 yesterday, new in box for $1,225.00. Everything looks perfect! Has the fa bolt carrier - nice. Shot 60 rounds thru it today: ran flawless. Was already zeroed in nicely. I was shooting steel plates at 200 to 450 yards with the issue sights. So far - I Love it! I would recomend buying one while you still can! |
How did this turn out, Scout? Oh, and feel free to IM me the info on that "great out of state Colt dealer......" |

I have both colts & RRAs. RRA puts together a great gun. Good price good product, shoot well, I like RRAs. Colt puts together the absolute best. Tough, rugged, reliable. thus, the higher price but you get better product. Also, Fit & Finish should be a term used with guns that have wood on them, not a combat rifle. |
