hello, i am new here and also pretty new to the whole thing. i just bought a used ar 15 made by bushmaster. i have a friend who knows alot about weapons, he said that the rifle has a colt barrel. is that common? also is there a way to find out how old the gun is i bought? it seems in pretty good shape. best regards chris |

It most likely has a bushmaster barrel unless it has been replaced. There should be a stamp on the top of the barrel. If you could post that, we could tell you what it is. Call bushmaster, give them the serial number. They will tell you when it was made. Does it have a threaded barrel with a flash suppressor or other device on the muzzle? |

it says B MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 H BAR also don't know why it has little green dots? maybe someone got paint on it. http://dodgetruckworld.tenmagazines.com/gallery/pics/352022.jpg thanks !!! |
+1 and that is a post ban, made between september 1994 and september 2004. edit: just in case you don't know, twist rate 1/9 means the bullet makes one complete revolution for every 9 inches of barrel length. what that means to you is that your barrel will best stabilize 55 and 62 grain bullets which are the most common 5.56 bullets and you can shoot up to 69 grain. above that and you might lose a little accuracy but you can still shoot 77 grains and such without any problems. |
